Ruth In practice the original entry may not be primary (not prime) either because details were sometimes noted on scraps of paper and entered into registers periodically. But yes, I agree that the register is usually the nearest we'll get to a primary source and should therefore be checked on the chance that there'll be info there which is not available elsewhere.
