I was wondering if anyone would have access to Saint John and Saint Nicholas Newcastle Upon Tyne baptismal registers between 1820 - 1830 I found 3 baptisms on the IGI and was wondering if the fathers occupation would be mentioned in the records as that would be a great help to prove or disprove if these 3 people are part of my family. Its a long shot but I just wanted to see if someone who has access to the records could check them to see what the fathers occupation was. The baptisms are - Thomas Dixon bapt 14 January 1821 Saint Nicholas NOT..........Isabella Dixon bapt 24 Feb 1822 Newcastle Upon Tyne (no mention of the name of the church) .....Agnes Dixon bapt 17 July 1825 Saint John NOT...........parents Alexander (a joiner) and Agnes Dixon Any help would be greatly appreciated Kindest regards Lorraine Kennedy WA
Thanks Michael and Maureen will try all these suggestions. There was a Morpeth Herald archive kept at Morpeth library, which was lost during the 2008 flooding. Might be worth contacting the library to see if anything survived and where it's currently held. Maureen Davison Sent from: Lenovo S5000-F
Jenny, The 'local' church to Limestonebrae is undoubtedly Ninebanks but prior to 1767 you need to look at Allendale. A non-conformist congregation was established at Garrigill around 1662 but the first registers are 1763. See http://tinyurl.com/m73h9rh. The other possibility is the Quakers who originally built a meeting house at Limestonebrae but I have not yet found any relevant records. My history of Limestone Brae is at http://tinyurl.com/n3svtz2 which you have probably visited but the 1740s are at present a gaping void. I will be watching this thread with great interest to add to my history of Limestone Brae. Morpeth Herald, The newspaper archive might have floated away down the Wansbeck during the floods, but the library has a good span of the weekly Herald on film. Michael Dixon .. Hi, I have been confused by the notation 'of this parish' and the online rootsweb answer was that the person only had to be in the parish for 21 days prior for the banns to be read and to avoid having banns read in both parishes often they lived in the parish for that time. What this could mean is that the person of whatever parish may in fact be born and baptized elsewhere but living where he or she was working. I have several Hetherington/ Charlton marriages in the Lanercost area of Cumberland and some of them came from Scotland. Hi Fran The Morpeth Herald might be worth looking at. It was definitely around in 1913 as I've seen cuttings from that paper relating to the death of suffragette Emily Wilding Davison at the Epsom Derby on 4th June that year. There are certainly copies of this paper at British Library - Newspapers and there may be local copies in libraries, but I've no information on this. Brian -- Brian Pears (Gateshead)
Hi Folks what newspaper would have been around in Morpeth in 1913? I am wondering if I might find death notice of my grandmother. Fran
Jenny: I have a note in my database of a Thomas Hetherington, son of William of "ye Millstones", baptised at Whitfield in 1746. No doubt the original would give more detail, of the date at least. I am trying to pin down a person who I believe to be my ancestor but have hit a brick wall. I have Thomas HETHERINGTON marrying a Hannah HETHERINGTON, (maiden name too), in 1771 at Ninebanks. In that marriage entry Thomas is shown to be of Limestone Brae and Hannah of Whiteley Shield. I have the baptism in 1748 of a Hannah Hetherington dau. of Jos' Hetherington of Whiteley Shield which appears to fit with the Hannah in the above marriage and with her burial in 1815 aged 68 she died at Whiteley Shield.
