At £30 I'd put them on a level with Nevison and he was hanged. Anyone managed to tie him with the Co. Durham Nevisons? http://www.stand-and-deliver.org.uk/highwaymen/john_nevison.htm Lancelot

If not it shouldn't appear here. Hello Ann >Ancestor names connected to Isabella CHARLTON (wife of Thomas REAY) are >WIDDRINGTON, ERRINGTON & NICHOLSON My wife has a possible Errington link via a Jane Errington, who married Thomas Loraine - thought to have been from the Loraines of Kirkharle. During the early 18th century, this Erington family were Catholic, 12 of whom were convicted of recusancy and forfeited land in consequence. See the papers of Annie Foster at the Northumberland Record Office and the History of Northumberland (Vol.IV) by John Crawford Hodgson. I also had an article published in the Spring 2001 issue of the N&DFHS Journal, which I can copy to you, which mainly relates to the Northumberland Lor(r)aines, but does mention the Erringtons I've cited. Hallo Anne, from snowbound Kent Congratulations! You are the first direct ancestral contact I've had during 9 years of intermittent membership of this List! I have several other rellies who would also no doubt like to make contact with you regarding all those names mentioned so I'll reply "off-list" but just to whet your appetite this line , Nicholson, Errington goes back to William the Conqueror and therefore probably Charlemagne! Lovely to hear from you! regards Alan REAY Yarrow ----- Original Message ----- From: "Ann Toll" <bobt@hotkey.net.au> To: <northumbria@rootsweb.com> Sent: Wednesday, January 13, 2010 1:26 AM Subject: [NMB] REAY - CHARLTON - GREY - RUTTER - WIDDRINGTON - ERRINGTON -NICHOLSON > > My 3rd great-grandfather was Joseph REAY born 28th may 1768 Ponteland > (Son > of Thomas REAY & Isabella CHARLTON) he died 8th April 1836 at Kenton, he > first married Mary ROBSON 24th December 1811 in Ponteland (dau of William > ROBSON & Eleanor ?) she died 13th August 1815 at Eland Hall, he then > married > Ann GREY (born 6th June 1784 Pigdon dau. Am I correct in thinking that the Central Library in Newcastle has the best selection of TRADE DIRECTORIES for the city of Newcastle? I am particular looking for the period 1900-1940. Many thanks, Carole E Atkinson
Researching my tree I have found reference sto a Couple of places I am at a loss to find. The following is an extract from a book ((he Cram Sourcebook) and I would like to know if there where "The Priorie" was and also the Manor House named "Holly Hall" at Bill Quay. The years are the early 1600s Many thanks Mike Fairless The grant of Felling to Hans Von Cramm by the Dean and Chapter of Durham for 'goodlie service at war' consisted of a dwelling called " 'The Priorie', with barns, stables, houses, buildings, yards, closes, orchards, gardens, ponds, lands, tenements, meadows, leases, pastures, commons, fishings, and all other profits and commodities, with all rents and services of tenants, all fruits, commodities, pensions, portions, and profits", etc., and was signed and sealed by Roger, Bishop of Durham. Papers in full were copied from the originals in the hands of John Spearman, English Stationer and collector. Andrew Cram (see will of Burchard) lived at Dents' Hole, Northumberland, England (on the north side of the river, close by Felling) where he owned valuable fisheries, and also at Bill Quay on the south side of the river in County Durham and not far from Wardley, which was willed him by his father Burchard. He also owned a Manor House called Holly Hall, at Bill Quay. The will of Andrew of Dents' Hole is dated 1625, and his property was given to his sons, Andrew, George and Archibald. He is buried in the old churchyard of St. Bede at Jarrow and Surtees in his history of Durham, volume 2, p. 71, gives the inscription on his stone - viz., "This is the burial place of Andrew Cram. He departed to the mercy of God 24 April 1658."
Carole, City Library's collection of TDs is better than that of Tyne & Wear Archives, and better than the selection online ! Michael
Not me unfortunately, My Mam and Dad lived in Newcastle in February 1945. My Mam told me the Newcastle hospitals were full of wounded soldiers so she popped over to Carlisle were her parents lived and had me there then brought me back to Newcastle. How sad is that? I have supported Newcastle United since I called at Mr Milburns house on Benton Park Road for his autograph when we won the cup in 1951. I was six but he only lived a couple of streets away. I got wrong off my dad when I got home but he let me off when I told him how nice Mr Milburn was and showed him the autographed photos. I know I am only about 97% Geordie and I keep an eye on Carlisles United's scores also.
