    1. [NORTHROP] Mailing lists on RootsWeb will be disabled in March 2020
    2. Aaron Hill
    3. I am not happy about this. I received the following message this morning. Please protest this short-sighted move, if you want. Perhaps if they hear from enough us, Ancestry will reverse course. To comment on this draconian move, send your message to rwmailinglists@ancestry.com or contact Ancestry via 1-800-615-6560. For other methods, such as mail, visit https://www.ancestry.com/corporate/contact-us. Aaron J. Hill aaronjhill.wordpress.com From RootsWeb Administration <rwmailinglists@ancestry.com> Tue 1/7/2020 9:36 AM Beginning March 2nd, 2020 the Mailing Lists functionality on RootsWeb will be discontinued. Users will no longer be able to send outgoing emails or accept incoming emails. Additionally, administration tools will no longer be available to list administrators and mailing lists will be put into an archival state. Administrators may save the emails in their list prior to March 2nd. After that, mailing list archives will remain available and searchable on RootsWeb. As an alternative to RootsWeb Mailing Lists, Ancestry message boards are a great option to network with others in the genealogy community. Message boards are available for free with an Ancestry registered account. Thank you for being part of the RootsWeb family and contributing to this community. Sincerely, The RootsWeb team

    3. [1]ancestry This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Author: nlph624 Surnames: Classification: marriage Message Board: [2]Click here Message Board Post: I am a descendent of the Hosea and Olive Northup line, although their daughter (also named Olive, married to Tom Potter) somehow morphed into a âNorthropâ. I have her Family Bible and she is the one making the notations within it. She inscribes her name as Olive Northup. I was hitting a wall during my research and then started to play with the spelling of the last name. Thatâs when I began to make progress.(I do have info on children and can follow the line down to me. I also have Olive Northup/Potter/Enright's obituary [1898]). 1. [NORTHROP] ANCESTRY SURVEY about NEW version---PLZ take it and pass it on
    2. Joyce Presnall via
    3. It is a really short survey---I gave it a big thumbs down---and then there are a few ratings and 2 places to leave remarks--it is important we do this--they are trying to figure out how many of us hate it BUT they did not send out emails to folks about it so nobody knows about it---sounds like they don't REALLY want to know https:/ancestry.az1.qualtrics.com/jfe/form/SV_02mXKrYAQtgUG4B?Q_CHL=si - Joyce -- Researching Stephenson/Stevenson, Fleury, Heald, Lindelof, Young, Rubino, Cammarota, Mandracchia, Vaiarelli, Mulhern, Johnson, Haight, Erickson, Munson, Northrup, Sears, Camp, Gunn, Allen, Gorham, Plumb, Beard, Rogers, Eliot, Briscoe, Bradley, Mix, Wilmot, Pritchard, Mew, Stone, Sparke, Bayley, Bailey, Redfield, Redfin, Howland, Tilley, Sturgis, Hinckley, Kirk, Norton, Gerard, and many more...

    1. [NORTHROP] Are you using NEW or Old ancestry? How to tell
    2. Joyce Presnall via
    3. Are you using NEW or Old ancestry? How to tell I have gotten many private emails since my post yesterday and realized a LOT of folks are still using the OLD version and don't realize they have to INTENTIONALLY sign on to the NEW version to see all the changes they have made. Ancestry has been VERY sneaky about this change. NO ONE got an email about the changes. The quickest way to tell is do a family view...if the background is WHITE you are still on the old version. If your profile page looks the same as it always has, you are still on the OLD version. The NEW ancestry has a black background on the family view. The NEW ancestry profile page is set up MUCH differently. To get to the NEW version to see what everyone is upset about, go to the upper R corner of ancestry where you see your user name and click on NEW Only then can you see the changes that have been made. Even then you cannot tell alll the problems unless you try to move around in it, do various functions you used to do to find all the problems with it. If you are still in the OLD version and everything looks like it always has-you are going to be in for the shock of your life when you sign on someday and you cannot see the ancestry we all know. I highly recommend anyone on ancestry do this--and really put the news view through it's paces... MOST people are NOT going to like what they see...and forget about all the handy functions you used to use--like printing a profile page (now called the FACTS page) Forget about trying to view the transcript version of a Census you have added, you can't Check out your story view--many people are finding the towns their ancestors are from are not recognized by ancestry computers so your ancestor who lived in "timbuctoo" may suddenly be living in New Zealand--I found one of MY folks there who lived in New York City If you find yourself liking the NEW version-I am happy for you. Make sure to put it through EVERY pace you can think of before deciding. The petition circulating is only asking that they offer BOTH methods of working in ancestry. again, here is the petition link...be sure you look at what boxes are auto checked and uncheck the ones you don't want. IF you accidentally get subscribed to the petition site, simply click on unsubscribe in the first email you get from them. I hope this clears up the confusion about WHY so many of us are upset Here is the petition website in case you deleted the email. http://www.thepetitionsite.com/600/803/575/save-ancestrycom-classic/ Joyce -- Researching Stephenson/Stevenson, Fleury, Heald, Lindelof, Young, Rubino, Cammarota, Mandracchia, Vaiarelli, Mulhern, Johnson, Haight, Erickson, Munson, Northrup, Sears, Camp, Gunn, Allen, Gorham, Plumb, Beard, Rogers, Eliot, Briscoe, Bradley, Mix, Wilmot, Pritchard, Mew, Stone, Sparke, Bayley, Bailey, Redfield, Redfin, Howland, Tilley, Sturgis, Hinckley, Kirk, Norton, Gerard, and many more...

    1. [NORTHROP] PLEASE help your fellow researchers to continue to do GOOD research
    2. Joyce Presnall via
    3. PLEASE help your fellow researchers to continue to do GOOD research The Petition is to ask Ancestry.com to keep "OLD" ancestry as an alternative. After a lot of us filed complaints about the NEW ancestry.com being horrible (and if you are serious about research it is--they have taken away a LOT of functions and made things a LOT more difficult to do there) and seeing they are ignoring us, someone has started a petition hoping Ancestry.com will listen to us. You do NOT need to be an ancestry.com member to sign this petition, so even if YOU don't use it, please try to help those of us that do by signing the petition and passing on the link for it to everyone you know. Last I checked we only had 1700 signatures which is NOT going to be enough to get them to listen to us "old timers". The NEW ancestry makes it more difficult to search, print and so many other functions don't work well either. Please help out your fellow researchers by signing and passing it on. http://www.thepetitionsite.com/600/803/575/save-ancestrycom-classic/ Thank you! I am doing research in that part of New York for a client and one of their ancestors married into the COOLE line in Albany County and migrated to Cayuga, Onondaga and Oswego Counties in central New York. The original COOLE was of Dutch stock and saw many records where the spelling was changed to COLE. I hope this helps you find James COLE who married Amanda Northrop.
