    3. Hello Mailing List Subscribers, As list administrator of this NORTHEY mailing list I have been informed by Ancestry.com, the current owner of RootsWeb, that... ----- Start of Ancestry.com message ----- Beginning March 2nd, 2020 the Mailing Lists functionality on RootsWeb will be discontinued. Users will no longer be able to send outgoing emails or accept incoming emails. Additionally, administration tools will no longer be available to list administrators and mailing lists will be put into an archival state. Administrators may save the emails in their list prior to March 2nd. After that, mailing list archives will remain available and searchable on RootsWeb. As an alternative to RootsWeb Mailing Lists, Ancestry message boards are a great option to network with others in the genealogy community. Message boards are available for free with an Ancestry registered account. Thank you for being part of the RootsWeb family and contributing to this community. Sincerely, The RootsWeb team ----- End of Ancestry.com message ----- It is obvious that Ancestry.com was spending resources to maintain these lists which directly do not produce any income to them. Furthermore the traffic on most mailing lists has lowered to a point where the lists themselves are hardly justified. Discussion with other list administrators shows that most surname lists will be completely discontinued. Further genealogical discussion about those surnames should take place on their respective locality list(s). Surname lists that are very active, along with most locality lists are being migrated to either Groups.IO or Google Groups. NORTHEY is a Cornish surname so we expect most discussion to take place on the new Cornish-Gen locality list at Google Groups. There is a NORTHEY Message Board at Ancestry.com where your messages will be welcomed. It is recommended that you send a message to this list (to be archived) listing your surname interest. Provide surname (all-capitals) and dates in Subject and body of your message. Provide a few other details in the body text: location, spouse, marriage date/location, children, etc. Most importantly provide in the body text an email address where you can be reached many years from now -- if you wish this can be munged such as jnorthey AT gmail DOT com, as long as it's understandable. Do this for every surname list to which you are subscribed. If you wish to discuss this further with other Northey list subscribers please write your message to northey@rootsweb.com (from a subscribed address). Thank you for all your previous help and participation in our Northey research. Cheers! -- Dave -- David Naylor, Hamilton, Ontario, Canada <https://sites.rootsweb.com/~hotrum/> ---
