Dear Irish Cousins, I have tried several times with getting some sort of reply to this query on TheShipsList, to no avail. So, now I plead my case before you. My Irish ancestors left with the large group of other Irish folks in the autumn of 1772 and sailed for Charlestowne, South Carolina. All five ships arrived safely. Aboard one of those ships, the FREE MASON, was the family of John TRUESDALE and his wife Mary HOLLINGSWORTH. They had lived in the area of Kinghill, Clonduff, County Down with many of their kinfolks. When John and Mary left that fall, they left behind, for unknown reasons, their eldest son Robert, who would have been about 6 years old at the time. They took the 3 other children with them when they sailed from the port of Newry on the 27th of October 1772. Sometime during the year of 1782 [he would have been about 16 years old then], arrangements were made for Robert to sail to SC to join the rest of the family. Letters indicated that Robert had indeed left Ireland aboard "a ship", enroute to SC. As best as we have been able to piece together, neither Robert nor the ship were ever heard of again. My question is, is there a list somewhere indicating which ships left from Ireland in 1782, most likely from the port of Newry, enroute to SC? I really would like to try to tie up this loose end on this family if at all possible. Any and all help with this would be greatly appreciated.
