I have had a question regarding Northern Ireland GenWeb, which is part of WorldGenWeb, and Ireland Genealogical Projects, which is NOT. They ARE NOT the same. Ireland Genealogical Projects is NOT associated in any way with any part of WorldGenWeb. Some of the same people work on both projects, but the WorldGenWeb info can be seen here http://www.worldgenweb.org . This quote explains the relationship between WorldGenWeb and IrelandGenWeb: > The WorldGenWeb Project was created in 1996 by Dale Schneider in an > effort to answer the ever growing needs of genealogists world-wide who > were trying to research their ancestors. The goal of the WorldGenWeb > Project is to have every country in the world represented by an online > website and hosted by researchers who either live in their own country > or who are familiar with their country's resources. The WorldGenWeb > Project is a not-for-profit volunteer genealogical organization > dedicated to the free access of genealogical information by anyone in > the world. > > The IrelandGenWeb Project has been online since early 1997. It began > as an original project of Diana Hanson-Muir back in 1996. Ms. > Hanson-Muir created an Irish resources website with information > regarding all the counties in Ireland and Northern Ireland. In 1997, > shortly after the WorldGenWeb Project debuted online, Ms. Hanson-Muir, > then co-chair for the WorldGenWeb Project, brought her website into > the project and from that time forward it has been known as The > IrelandGenWeb Project. Since that time, the project has remained > faithful to the goals and mission of the WorldGenWeb Project and > continues today to provide FREE resource and reference information to > researchers of the Emerald Isle. > After the IrelandGenWeb began, Northern IrelandGenWeb grew: > The Northern IrelandGenWeb Project has been online since early 1998. > The following individuals have served as our Country Coordinator: > 1998-1999, Carol Hepburn; 1999-2000, Nathan Zipfel; 2000, Carol > Hepburn; 2000-2001 Sue Seibert; 2001 - 2002, Nathan Zipfel; > 2002-present, Sue Seibert. > > Our dedicated group of volunteers (some local and some throughout the > world) are active in Irish research - each hosting a county that they > have a research interest in. We pride ourselves on being "available" > and being "friendly" -- offering helpful advice to new researchers. > > We are a non-commercial entity and work hard to form collaborative > relationships with many Irish resources on the internet. We do not > provide research for a fee nor do we recommend professional > genealogists for hire. We do not engage in research for others -- > although some of our volunteers do offer to do lookups, at their > convenience. Our goal is to provide the "essential elements" that new > researchers need. Among those are quality informational pages, > pertinent addresses, county maps, query and surname resources, and > friendly mail lists. > The WorldGenWeb and its branches, including Northern IrelandGenWeb, keep these sites as faithful as possbile to the goals and missions which began them in 1996. If anyone who uses these sites or this list has problems with any of the WorldGenWeb site, please notify the appropriate coordinator as soon as possible. It has been noted that the are porn links on some of the Ireland Genealogical Projects' sites. I have checked this and found it true, so if anyone reading this is associated with IGP, I sincerely hope you will make an effort to track down unwanted porn, or other, sites and un-link them. If anyone has a question, please let me know, and I will do my best to find the answer. Slán ~ Sue Seibert P. O.
