I am trying to contact anyone who has information relating to VANCE families(likely Scots)in N. Ireland or in PA/VA during the period c. 1680-1786. I have a Rachel Vance b.c. 1766(prob. in VA) who married a James Hamilton in Augusta Co. VA in 1786. However, aside from locating a Vance family in Bedford Co. VA c. 1757, I have not been able to establish Rachel's parents' names. I've not found a connection between the Bedford Co. Vances and this Rachel in Augusta Co.but there may well be one. My information is that there were Vance families in Derry during the plantation period in Ulster, and that some were prominent merchants in Londonderry and vicinity. However, as I don't have much more than Rachel's name, I am pretty much stuck. Any leads/clues would be appreciated. Regards, Larry D. Hamilton Coats
