List, This is what I have: Edward Rice leaving County Tyrone with a Certificate of Good Character signed by his rector, the Rev. George Cope of Parish of Killyman, Barrony of Dungannon dated June 12, 1736. Later, in the colonies in the first tax record found for Edward in Bucks County, PA., lists him as a "weaver". We believe that prior to Edward being in Co. Tyrone, he and his father Edward left from somewhere in Wales around 1724 to come to Ulster. Questions: * Was it commonplace for all leaving Ulster to have in their possession a Certificate as mentioned above? * Was weaving a profession of many persons in Ulster, or just Co. Tyrone. How big of an industry was weaving? * Would Edward, if being in the weaving industry in Ulster in the 1730's, be self-employed in his own home, or would he be employed by someone? * In Co. Tyrone in the 1730's, would one be a landowner, or would he be a renter from a landbaron? Thanks, Bob Rice
