1. Thomas HAGAN who worked on the Ulster Canal as an overseer and was born around 1790 in Co Tyrone. Thomas could read and write, was a Roman Catholic and was married c 1814 to Hannah MARLEY from Co Armagh. 2. My gg grandfather, James HAGAN, (b 1815 County Tyrone Ireland Parish Of Caledon) and Sarah LESTER (b 1814 County Armagh Ireland Parish Killala - daughter of William LESTER and Rebecca HADDOCK), m 1835 in County Armagh from Co Tyrone and Armagh travelled to Australia in 1838 as settlers, arriving in Sydney in October 1838. They had two children at the time William and James (2 and 6 months). Another son John was born in Sydney in 1844 by which time they had changed their name to EGAN. They had 8 children in all: a..
