Old photos taken in Co Down on my web site at: http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~jeanmccarthy36 To anybody interested in old photos taken in Banbridge County Down. I have added a couple of photographs (circa 1939) to my family photos page on my web site. The photographs are groups of children (with names) taken in Railway Street Banbridge. Perhaps somebody might recognise childhood friends. I have also put a photograph of my uncle William John Hawthorne (born 1909) in the hope that somebody might be able to tell me from his uniform what regiment he was in. Although I have two other photographs of him in different uniforms. Family legend has it that he was in the Manchester Regiment. Other stories say he was in the Desert Rats and still others say that he was in the Indian Army. I would love to hear from anybody who can shed some light on the mystery. Many thanks in anticipation. Kindest Regards. Jean McCarthy nee Moore My names of interest: MOORE, (Ireland, Canada & Australia) BOWDEN, (Ireland, New Zealand, Tasmania & Australia) HAWTHORNE, (Ireland and Pennsylvania).
