Without much luck so far, I am trying to track down the origins in NI of one William BARCLAY, b.c. 1670(possibly in or near Glasgow Scotland)and who d. in Lancaster Co. PA c. October 1732. His wife was Mary_______and we know of at least three sons: Hugh Barclay b. 1702 d. 1754 PA; Wm Barclay; and John Barclay, d. 1764 PA, who married Martha McConnell(in PA). Perhaps not so strangely, this Martha McConnell(1704-1795)was the dau. of John McConnell by his wife, Elizabeth Barclay(perhaps or perhaps not related to this Wm Barclay above). This Elizabeth Barclay is said to have been b. in Ulster c. 1686, but I don't have any more info on her. My best guess at this point is that these particular Barclays(para 1 anyway)were possibly settled in Co. Tyrone c. 1670-80. It is believed that Wm Barclay married his wife, Mary, in Ulster c. 1690. And, it seems also very likely that these Barclays were from Ayrshire originally, but I am only making an educated guess on this point. If there are any NI Barclay experts on this list, please contact me; my available resources are running a bit thin right now. Regards to all, Larry D. Hamilton Coats
