They continue with the Wards: Duncairn and St. Annes. There are a lot of names other than my names of interest this time. One page of Hospital staff for example. I will update the Belfast Street Directory in the next few days. It looks like my guest book has disappeared for good. I have not been able to contact the Guestcities web host. Belfast Street Directory for 1901 on my web site at: http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~jeanmccarthy36 I have today posted some more Wards on my web site. They continue with the Wards: Belfast,Clifton, Court, Shankill, St. Annes, St. Georges & Smithfield. A total of 2048 streets are now entered in my street directory. Please note: There are a few streets I have found which were not in my original guide. I have included these in my directory. Similarly I must assume that there are streets that I have not found yet. I will enter these in due course as I find them. I will enter more of the LDS film numbers as I find them as well. I have also posted a list of 129 Old Occupation names and their meanings on my site. You may find these helpful to you in your research. My apologies for any difficulty you may have had with the message board. I believe this has now been resolved. In regard to the Family TreeMaker 9.0 fix - I took note that the people at FTM said that the update would fix the source citation problem as well as the aqueduct program. I downloaded that update over a week ago, so I went to the Aqueduct log to see when it was last "added to" and it was on the same day that I downloaded the fix - so that did take care of the whole situation. Karla
This was the reply I had from Family TreeMaker today. There is a way to remove Aqueduct from your system. Recently you requested personal assistance from our on-line support center. Below is a summary of your request and our response. We will assume your issue has been resolved if we do not hear from you within 48 hours. Thank you for allowing us to be of service to you. Subject --------------------------------------------------------------- Aqueduct file on FTM 9.0 Discussion Thread --------------------------------------------------------------- Response (Wendy) - 11/19/2001 01:11 PM Hello Family Tree Maker Customer, I am sending this message to everyone who has asked about the Aqueduct file as it seems that a mass email was sent over the weekend that is causing great concern among Family Tree Maker 9.0 customers. Please read the entire contents of this message and feel free to forward it to all of those who may have been on the mailing list who started notifying people over the weekend. The aqueduct.txt file is originally set up for our beta testers with their consent to help us track and log any problems they encounter while testing Family Tree Maker. After beta testing is completed, our programmers here at Genealogy.com then deactivate the file. Unfortunately, creation of the aqueduct.txt file was not deactivated for the final Family Tree Maker Version 9.0 release. Since we became aware of this issue, we have found a simple solution. Please know that Genealogy.com does not have access to the information logged by the file. We would only have had access if you had specifically sent it to us by email. We have created an update that all customers using version 9.0 should download and install. In addition to the Aqueduct issue, this update also addresses an issue that was brought to our attention after Family Tree Maker 9.0 was produced and released where source citations may be inadvertently altered by utilizing certain functions within the program. In order to protect your family file, please download and install this update today. Please note that there are 2 versions of the update. The proper one for you to use depends upon where you purchased your copy of Family Tree Maker version 9.0. If you bought your copy of Family Tree Maker version 9 directly from Genealogy.com or it came in an envelope, download the update from http://www.Genealogy.com/update/. If you bought Family Tree Maker from a retail store or it came in a box, download the update from http://www.Genealogy.com/newinfo/. All of this information is available in further detail by visiting our Online Help Center at www.genealogy.com/help. For the complete article on the Aqueduct issue, please see: http://genealogy.custhelp.com/cgi-bin/genealogy.cfg/php/enduser/std_adp.php? p_sid=EZBHMC*f&p_lva=&p_faqid=476 For the complete article on the Source Citation issue please see: http://genealogy.custhelp.com/cgi-bin/genealogy.cfg/php/enduser/std_adp.php? p_faqid=490 We apologize for any inconvenience that this may have caused. As always, please utilize our Online Help Center for the most up-to-date information on your Family Tree Maker program. Thank you for your continued support! Sincerely, Wendy Burruel Technical Support Manager Customer ( ) - 11/19/2001 08:12 AM Would you please tell me WHAT EXACTLY does the Aqueduct tracking file that was put on my computer with FTM 9.0 does? I specifically want to know WHEN and HOW OFTEN it transmits data to you, and WHAT kind of data it is transmitting. Is it possible to uninstall this log file without destroying the integrity of the software system? There is a lot of e-mail making its rounds on the genealogy message boards right now about your product and most of it is NOT complimentary. I have used FTM for 5+ years and have been happy with it. Please answer my questions at the e-mail address above or call me at 518-585-3653. Thank-you. You can always vote with your feet. I've been using Legacy 3.0 for a while and find it excellent. You can download it free at www.legacyfamilytree.com As for 'Spyware' programs, if you're worried about programs phoning home over your internet connection, I suggest you install ZoneAlarm (search for it at www.download.com) Excellent personal firewall which will trap every application which attempts to use the internet. You can decide if you want the program to go ahead, or stop it. Wouldn't be without it, especially for DSL or Cablemodem connections. Hope this helps.... Thank you for the warning. I did a "find" for the aqueduct file and found it. It does seem to have been tracking my useage. I wondered why FTM had this "upgrade" because I don't see any real changes from version 8. I am about to uninstall version 9 and reinstall version 8. I have used FTM for years and love it. But I am very disapointed in them for this. Hi, This came from one of my lists. If you use FTM read and head! FAMILY TREE MAKER, VERSION 9: A WARNING It has come to my attention that Family Tree Maker may be up to no good with the latest version (9) of their genealogy program. Since I don't use FTM with any degree of proficiency (I use PAF), I'm passing along this warning by way of copy and paste. Those of you who use FTM will want to read this carefully: "Mattel, the parent company of FTM has included tracking software in Version 9 which keeps track of everything you do on the internet and sends a log of your surfing habits to Mattel every time you log on. The log file is called "aqueduct" and can be found in the root directory of your C drive. I have deleted the file and gone back to version 8. "I discovered {this] quite by accident. In an unrelated attempt to fix one of my screwups on my hardrive, I discovered the file called "aqueduct" and opened it as I didn't know what it was. I discovered that it was a log of all my surfing habits and I now know, it covered the period from when I installed the FTM 9 upgrade to the date I discovered it and deleted it. I didn't realize it was a FTM by product until I tried to open FTM (after deleting aqueduct) and I got an error message saying "Aqueduct" was missing -- it seems that without the file, FTM version 9 will not run at all. Since I detest tracking software of any kind, I uninstalled FTM version 9 and reinstalled FTM version 8. Note: You will have to open and rename your database backup copy as any database file that you opened and stored in version 9 will be useless." ++++++ End of Forwarded Text ++++++ Tigger, Warrington Aloha Joe With interests in the following names: TATTERSALL, TOMLINSON, VEEVERS, HOLDEN, BOOTHMAN and ODDIE. Hi All, After reading this, I did some checking as I had recently purchased version 9. It is true as I found these files on ly computer. I use AdAware which can be downloaded for free http://www.lavasoftusa.com/ There is also an upgrade but that will cost money. I ran AdAware and it removed the components but now my FTM will not work. Very sneeky of FTM and I plan on writing them a letter.
