1901 Irish Census Extracts on my web site at: http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~jeanmccarthy36 I have posted some more films on my web site. The latest films are for: NORTH WEST BELFAST, SHANKILL PARISH, CLIFTON WARD and NORTH BELFAST SHANKILL PARISH COURT WARD. Some of the new films are at the bottom of Census Two G. I had to start a new file for Census Three. The rest of the new films are on Census Three. There are a lot of names other than my names of interest. For example: Boarders, servants, in-laws and grandchildren etc. So it might be worth taking a look through the records. I will update the 1901 Belfast Street Directory A.S.A.P. Kindest Regards. Greetings All: I am attempting to tunnel under, jump over, and sneak around the brick wall that has stopped my research progress. I cannot find a definite connetion for my Robert Kennedy. I am attempting to penetrate the wall by eliminating other possible candidates. Does anyone have information on Robert Kennedy, son of David Kennedy and Jane Porter of County Down NIR. Does anyone have information on his death, marriage, children or location after his birth? I am looking for a Robert Kennedy who was the father of a William (possibly born 1794) and a David Kennedy (possibly born 1796) either in Scotland (around Glasgow) or County Down NIR. I would appreciate any leads. Thank you for any help. Mike Kennedy Dayton Ohio

Ken, Thank you for your suggestion of the Jacobite War of 1689 and the spelling of Kilmacormick. These seem to be in the right time frame and the right area. I have read alot on the Jacobites in the last few days and although I did not find a "Battle of Kilmacormick", I did find references to fighting around Enniskillen and no doubt as the story passed down from generation to generation it became a way to identify the place. Thanks again for your help. Cynthia, Calgary, Alberta.

Would it be the Jacobite War of 1689, against the forces of William of Orange? In an old letter from Ireland I found the following information. A Scots army invaded Ireland about 1688/89. On the way to the Battle of the Boyne 1690, the battalion was defeated at the Battle of Killimacormick(?) outside of Enniskillen. The survivors scattered and some settled nearby. My Archie Morrison settled in Conor, Ballinamallard, Fermanagh. I have tried Copernic and other sites but can find no information on this battle. Would anyone know the correct name? I would appreciate any help. Thank you. Cynthia, Calgary, Alberta.
What an excellent site, Jean! I've been looking for something like this for ages and, while I haven't been through all of it, what I have found for Irish genealogy has been great. Thank you. I am looking for information on James Walker, Donegal, Ireland who was the father of Nathaniel Walker who was born about 1845 +/- . Nathaniel Walker married Sarah Jane Allingham born around the same time period. Their daughter, Mina Walker, born 1885 was my grandmother. I know that James Walker was Nathaniel's father but have been unable to trace the family further back than that. If any of you are descendants of any of the people I would love to hear from you. Thanks, Carol
I have put a description of Relationship Terms on my web site at: http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~jeanmccarthy36/ For example second cousins once removed etc. I used to always find it confusing to figure out the relationship between various cousins. So hopefully this might help other people in their research. The information is on the same page as and under Naming Patterns. Kind Regards. Jean McCarthy nee Moore
Hi Norm Thanks for that. I do indeed use Google search etc, and find it comes up with many possibilities, and then you just have to filter thru them. As I mentioned I was trying to short circuit things a little by coming up to the present day - thought I'd be able to get a few "rellies" to fill in the gaps <grin>. I've got births between 1876 and 1891, which were my grandfather's generation, and was hoping that there'd been some of their children & grandchildren left behind who'd be able to put together a few pieces of the jigsaw. I have actually sent a couple of letters off to people in Irvinestown and Strabane with the hope that if they are not actually related, they may be able to point be to a distant cousin six times removed, lol! Always appreciate your comments and advice Norm, thanks again. Regards Karen Hitchcock (nee Guy) Auckland, NZ
Hi Everyone Please excuse the generalised mailing here, but I am trying to follow up on relatives who remained in Ireland after my g-grandfather left in 1875. Have so far managed to come down a generation or so, and find births between 1875 and 1891 approx. This means that it is likely that these people may have offspring still living today (they are the same generation as my father). In Ireland - Eire and Ulster - is there a system similar to what we have in NZ of a register of electors - all those people eligible to vote who are enrolled on the electoral system - and is available to the public? Gives full names, and address? Am probably trying to short circuit a bit of hunting <grin> however it may pay dividends if it is available. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Regards Karen Hitchcock (nee Guy) Auckland, NZ Researching Guy family, Cos Donegal, Fermanagh & Tyrone
Karen; One of many places that gives you what records are available in Ireland is the Public Record Office of Northern Ireland (PRONI) located in Belfast. Dublin has a large genealogy center as well. Looking on PRONI's web site will tell you what records are available, but won't give you much in online records that you can search or read. http://proni.nics.gov.uk/ While not being the Voters List you were looking for, a good source fitting in your time period, is to use Jean Rice's 1876 Landowners lists that she has compiled for each Co. in Ireland. To find these lists, go to the Rootsweb web site at: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec?htx=board&r=rw&p=localities.britisles.ireland Using the search engine there and selecting "All Boards" (default) put in the keywords of "Jean Rice Landowners". This will bring up all her Landowner records that she compiled for every Co. in Ireland. This will be a large number of listings and they are broken up into alphabetical sections for each Co., having about 20 listings just for one Co. If you know the Co. where your relatives are located, then select that Co. to do your search in, using the same key words. Be sure to check the box next to the search engine in that Co., so that you only get that Co.'s records, not all Co.'s records. This will give you the 20 or so listings for that Counties Landowners Lists. Searching through the listings, you can zero in on the group that covers your surname. The Landowners List is for all owners of land, one acre or more, so doesn't include those with smaller parcels. There are many bits of data on the various message boards, mailing lists, surname lists, and contributed family tree search sites that are online, one being at http://www.familysearch.com. Searching these online sources can lead you to some good information that might help you too. Using a search engine such as http://www.google.com and putting in "guy genealogy fermanagh" Gives you 204 " Guy hits", just for Fermanagh. Doing the same for the other locations can yield similar numbers of hits. Searching these hits will usually turn up some good things that are helpful. Putting in the townland in place of Fermanagh, refines the hits to fewer numbers and may help as well. A long winded answer to a simple request, but answering it this way might help you and others. I hope it will.
