Would anyone have any information at all about the Algie family in Northern Ireland in the later part of the 1800's? I am particularly trying to find info on a James Campbell Algie born in Belfast at some time between 1882 and 1895. He married an Ivy Verrill but I think that happened in England. I am also seeking his brother - John Davidson Algie also born in Belfast on 24 September 1896. He married twice- 1. Edith Shingler 2. Edith Walker. Their parents were James Algie and Henrietta Watt. Anything at all regarding this family or any other Algie's would be greatly appreciated. Thanks Sharron --- Outgoing mail is certified Virus Free. Hi Check out this site for Co Down....and Dromore....lots of interesting stuff on here.....Janet www.cksc11654.pwp.blueyonder.co.uk
This would be in County Down around the town of Dromore. The Parish was quite large in previous times but records go bacl until about 1770. Those before 1890 have been photographed by the Mormons so you should first search on www.familysearch.org, choosing International genealogical index, region UK, part ireland, county down. The church has a web site. go to yahoo.com and enter in quotation marks "Dromore Parish". This should get it. If you have any problems get bak to me Ella On Tue, 14 May 2002 13:27:50 EDT HOSTGFSLINDA@aol.com wrote: > > In a message dated 5/14/02 9:13:16 AM, william.gordon1@worldnet.att.net > writes: > > << I found a birth record stating Dromore parish, Co Down. 1901 Irish Census Extracts on my web site at: http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~jeanmccarthy36 I have posted two more films on my web site. The latest films are for: WEST BELFAST, SHANKILL PARISH, FALLS WARD. The new films are at the bottom of Census Three. There are a lot of names other than my names of interest. For example: Boarders, servants, in-laws and grandchildren etc. So it might be worth taking a look through the records. I will update the 1901 Belfast Street Directory A.S.A.P. Kindest Regards. 1901 Belfast Wards on my web site at: http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~jeanmccarthy36 I have at last finished compiling the list of Belfast Streets with Wards on my web site. It is an alphabetical directory which will give the Wards the streets are in. If you know the name of the street your family lived in; you can now find the ward the street was in. Once you have the ward you can then search for the film numbers in the original street directory. After entering the site click on Streets & Wards. I will add more streets as I find them. I will also correct any typos (and there are bound to be some) A.S.A.P. I hope the above new Ward directory will help you all to find your Belfast ancestor’s. I will post more films on the 1901 Census shortly as well as update the street directory again. Kindest Regards. Thanks to Jill Wood in New Zealand I have been able to update the 1901 Belfast street directory for Pottinger Ward on my web site at: http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~jeanmccarthy36 Jill very kindly sent me the street names and film numbers of the films she has been searching. Thank you so very much indeed Jill. It is greatly appreciated. I have only used the leading number of the film. This is because the rest of the numbers is probably pertaining to what country it is ordered from. I know the leading number is Universal. I am currently compiling an alphabetical directory which will give the Ward the street is in. Once you have the ward you can then search for the film numbers in the original street directory. I will complete this as soon as possible. I am sure you all understand that it is a marathon task and that it will take a little time. Kind Regards. Jean McCarthy nee Moore Cannock Staffordshire

Hi Deborah, I don't have anything on Thomas but I do have a David born in Pa. 1815-18. Do you happen to have him in your line? Tracking down all these people is a lot of fun but frustrating too. My g. grandmother was Amanda Bonnar, I believe from W. Vir. Hope someone can give you the information you need. June Helton--DHelton883@aol.com
I'm new to the list and this is my first posting so please forgive me if I make any mistakes. I'm seeking any information at all on an ancestor from Co. Down - probably Drumballyroney. His name was Thomas ADAMS and he was born 5 July 1735. He emigrated to York (now Adams) Co., PA, USA sometime before 24 April 1750. Deborah Hainley Bonnar dahbonnar@aol.com
This is for Judy. I, too, am interested in the surname HALL in County Tyrone. My g.g.grandparents were John Walls and Anne Hall of Castlederg, Ulney Parish, Tyrone. Their son, James, b. ca. 1832-5 married Catherine Gerrity, daughter of Anthony and Catherine (Gallagher) Gerrity , ca.1860. Can anyone provide some information to confirm this? I'd certainly appreciate hearing from you. Thanks, Lorraine

1901 Belfast Street Directory on my web site at: : http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~jeanmccarthy36 Sorry Linda and everybody. I usually put the date but this time I forgot. My mistake. Please accept my apologies for any inconvenience caused. My street directory is for 1901. It follows on from my research of the 1901 census. I put abstracts from the 1901 census on my web site. There are a lot of names other than my names of interest. For example: Boarders, servants, in-laws and grandchildren etc. According to the messages I receive a lot of folks have found their families amongst my abstracts. Kindest Regards. Greetings List . . . Dori's suggestion makes perfect sense to me and I support it wholeheartedly. It could give the best of both worlds if done right: -- Provide a *key word* for the disinterested to use to filter out these requests and not deal with them at all. -- Let the interested folks selectively follow names of interest. -- Allow those kind souls out there doing the lookups to pick them out easier. If members on this List are willing to be guinea pigs, I'd like to run a 30-day trial here, also, and then get your feedback on the pros and cons of this method. Expanding on Dori's idea, I'd like to use these key points during our trial period of better Lookup Management on Lists. 1. 1st words in Subject Line: Census Lookup. 2. Next following: (County)/(Date)/(Surname). In that order only. 3. 1st words in Subject Line of Reply to be: Reply Census Lookup. 4. Next following to repeat: (County)/(Date)/(Surname). If this works and significantly improves the flow of messages on the list, I will expand it to many of my other lists to reduce unnecessary reading. Your thoughts and ideas are always welcome here. Unless there are major objections (which should be sent to be privately and not aired on the List), we will begin this trial on Monday, April 15th. ~~ Kathleen List Administrator _______________________ ~~~ Kathleen's Korner ~~~ Kathleen@KathleensKorner.net -- ----- Original Message ----- From: <Dorydu@aol.com> > For census lookups here in the US. some rather loose rules have been laid out, which, if followed, seem to eliminate reading many, many inquiries that are of no concern.
