    3. Does anyone have any information about the family of John and Mary Devlin of Tyrone? Their son, Lawrence, was born ca 1855 and migrated to New Zealand some time before 1885. I believe his parents did not migrate. Not much to go on ,is it? If anyone can help in any way I'd be most grateful. Margaret in NZ __________________________________________________ Do you Yahoo!? 1. [NIR-GW] Researching from afar
    2. Arthur & Pauline Kennedy
    3. Not living in Ireland, I have considered paying someone else to do some research for me, but I am not very happy about the way researchers (individuals and organisations) seem to operate. Here in England it is often possible to engage a researcher to work in a kind of "piecemeal" fashion - to look up a few specific entries in registers, or to obtain a single census extract etc - but all the researchers I have found in Northern Ireland asked for a fee to cover maybe 3-4 hours work - and the rates are all higher than many English ones. I am reluctant to make this kind of arrangement because (a) I don't know at the start how much information I will get for the money; and (b) it feels as though I am handing over control of my research to someone else. In any case, it can be useful to assess a researcher on the basis of a small piece of work before asking them to do something bigger. The parish I am particularly interested in has had its memorial inscriptions transcribed, but these can only be accessed if you ask the body/bodies holding them to undertake a fuller research project. To obtain just the MIs I am interested in would cost getting on for 10 times what I might pay for a booklet or fiche of all the MIs for an English parish - and a full listing often allows you to discover much more information about the parish as a whole, as well as possibly new connections. Am I alone in feeling unhappy about these arrangements? And has anyone had any better experiences? Arthur Kennedy

Also looking for PALL MALL in the county of MIDDLESEX, I know there is a Mddlesex in England but was there ever one in IRELAND around the 1850,s. Any help on this would be appreciated.

    2. Owen Davey
    3. Hi Opal. My great great grandfather was John Tainor, from Ballykinlar. His approx dob is 1825. I do not know the name of his wife. His daughter Rose, dob approx 1850, married Edward Fitzsimmons, from North Tyrella(Carrikannab), on 27 Nov 1871. Their daughter (my grandmother), Rose Anne Fitzsimmons married Owen Davey, my grandfather, in 1898. Their first child was my Dad, Owen Davey, born in Belfast in 1899. Rose and Edward had two daughters, my grandmother and her sister. Edward died at an early age. Rose left for America alone, sometime in the late 1880s, presumably to join relatives or find work. Her two children were left with relatives. She was never heard from again. Ballykinlar is a Townland in Tyrella Parish, not far from Downpatrick in County Down. It is the home location for many of the Trainor and Fitzsimmons family who have lived there for hundreds of years. As you noted, there are many variations of the name. I am not sure if we are related somewhwere in the past but there is a good chance of it. I visited Tyrella and the area with my wife in 1989. It is a pretty place. For more info on the documentary record go back to the Caora site which explaines the nature of the sources it uses. Send me a note if you can think of any questions I may be able to help you with. My Davey ancestors come from Ballynahinch which is just a bit north and east, about 10 miles or so, from Tyrella/Ballykinlar. I live in the village of Gagetown, New Brunswick, Canada. 1. [NIR-GW] 1901 Irish Census
    2. 1901 Irish Census on my web site at: http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~jeanmccarthy36 I have published another three films on my web site. They are for the Falls, St Anne’s and the Smithfield wards of Belfast. They are at the bottom of Census Three D. I have also updated the Belfast Street Directory for the Falls Ward, Smithfield Ward, St. Annes Ward and Court Ward. Thanks to Jill Wood in New Zealand I have also updated the St Georges Ward. Thanks so very much once again Jill, I know everybody appreciates you sharing your research with us. I will update the Streets & Wards pages as soon as possible. Please note the street directory gives the name of the street, the name of the ward, the PRONI film number and the LDS film number. I am adding to these all the time. The Streets and wards pages are just that. If you know the name of the street you are looking for. This is an alphabetical list of the streets that were in Belfast in 1901. You can look up what ward a particular street was in from this list. This makes it easier to locate the film number you need to order if you want to search the 1901 census. Kindest Regards. 3. Hi Jean; Now I don't want you to ever be lonely! Long time now communicate, but I have seen your posts from time to time. Bummer on the computer problems. I sent another English Lady some suggestions on "loss prevention". I will include it in this email for you to see if there is anything there that you can use. My wife has been real sick and I have taken a long time off the mailing lists, but been reading them daily. She has some kind of auto immune problems that is causing some paralysis and severe headaches. The Dr. has been trying to figure things out now for the last 2 1/2 months and still no answers. Here are the computer suggestions: Well now it dawns on me that I too have been hit with something that won't let my main computer boot up. I was running Norton Disk Dr. when everything went to H*** in a hen basket. Been working all day trying to get it to boot up again. I can get to the hard drive and all my data though. I will send the suggestions tomorrow to you.
