    3. I tried that, but nothing showed up. Apparently the marriages, if extracted into a batch, are on a different number or not extracted. I was hoping someone might have come across them on some other, completely different batch. 3. Each film has several different items. Each item is extracted and given a Batch number. An item dealing with births and Christenings is given a batch number starting with "C" and then other numbers. A marriage item on the film starts with "M". By putting in the Batch number on my computer, I can read the extracted information at home. When I narrow down my search needs, I can then go to a Family History Library and spend my time looking at films and other sources. 3. << I have Batch number ( C320759 ) for Crossgar(e) Births/Christenings but I need Batch numbers that show marriages. I also need Batch numbers for Saul Births/ Christenings and Marriages. >> The locations are all in Southeastern County Down. I guess I should explain a little more why I need the Batch numbers. When I go to familysearch.org, I can do a general search for a name, such as David Kennedy. I put the region, country and county in the search. I may get several dozen or several hundred David Kennedy's. I find a few that appear to be mine and click on that item. This takes me to a detailed screen of that particular person. Among the information sometimes shown is a Batch Number, sometimes a film number, a printout number or a source number. With the Batch number I can continue to do additional research from home. Later on I can order the film if needed. If I go back to the IGI search screen and put in the region, country, county, the Batch number and just the surname, I can pull up all the Kennedy's from that same Batch. OR If I go back to the IGI search screen and put in region, country and county along with the Batch number, BUT NO surname, I can bring up ALL the surnames on that Batch. Mike Kennedy Dayton Ohio

    1. [NIR-GW] Book: The Irish: A Photohistory
    2. Janet Flemming
    3. E-mail message contentHi Listers..... I was recently sent this review for what is a great book about Ireland (would make a lovely Christmas present) For those interested in books about Ireland check out the following great site http://www.readireland.com or www.readireland.ie The Irish: A Photohistory by Sean Sexton and Christine Kinealy (Large Hardback: Thames & Hudson, 224 pages, with 271 illustrations) The first Irish photographs date from 1840, a year after Louis Daguerre announced to the world his discovery of the photographic process. In the century that followed, Ireland was to know tragedy and triumph, bitter struggle and agonized compromise. In 1840 no one could possibly have forseen the catastrophe that was about to unfold in Ireland. The Great Famine was to kill over a million Irish poor people between 1846 and 1851, and force an even greater number to flee the horrors of their homeland. In the following decades, Irish political life was dominated by the struggle for land rights, for Home Rule, and ultimately for independence. As that story unfolds throughout this book, the reader encounters inspirational leaders and impatient rebels, and their campaigns of persuasion and violence. We glimpse too the injustices that inspired them, above all the mass eviction of destitute peasants from their homes and lands by the heavy hand of the law. Yet these images do mu! ch more than tell a gripping political and historical story. They give an insight into a people, a landscape, and a lost way of life. They evoke the grandeur of life in the Big House, home and symbol of the Anglo-Irish elite. They reveal the hard labour of rural survival: cutting peat for fuel, fishing, gathering seaweed and tilling the soil, against the magnificence of the often harsh Irish landscape. And they show the transforming impact of modernity, as industry, railways and urban expansion slowly brought Ireland into a new era. Covering the first century of Ireland in the era of photography, this enthralling visual history brings the past vividly to life. 3. Opal, I have found the surname Treanor among a few documents while researching my family "Cranney" (Tithe Lists, Flax Growers, etc.). There is a site that I have visited often that has some history on the Treanor (Traynor/Trainer) surname. Here is the site if you're interested: http://www.mccabeclan.com/trainor.htm The Gaelic Ulster surname Mac Threinfhir - son of strong man, or champion -is anglicized Traynor, also spelt Treanor and Trainor, without the Mac, though the prefix is retained in the variant MacCrainor, which is phonetically more correct, since the T is aspirated in the Irish form of the name. Apart from Dublin city, Traynors are chiefly found in the districts between Monaghan, Armagh and Dungannon. ----- Original Message ----- From: Opal Danner Sent: Saturday, November 23, 2002 3:26 PM To: NorthernIrelandGenWeb-L@rootsweb.com Subject: [NIR-GW] Denis Treanor I have found references to a couple of Denis Treanors. The Streets and wards pages are just that. If you know the name of the street you are looking for. This is an alphabetical list of the streets that were in Belfast in 1901. You can look up what ward a particular street was in from this list. This makes it easier to locate the film number you need to order if you want to search the 1901 census.
