Dear Irish Cousins, I have tried several times with getting some sort of reply to this query on TheShipsList, to no avail. So, now I plead my case before you. My Irish ancestors left with the large group of other Irish folks in the autumn of 1772 and sailed for Charlestowne, South Carolina. All five ships arrived safely. Aboard one of those ships, the FREE MASON, was the family of John TRUESDALE and his wife Mary HOLLINGSWORTH. They had lived in the area of Kinghill, Clonduff, County Down with many of their kinfolks. When John and Mary left that fall, they left behind, for unknown reasons, their eldest son Robert, who would have been about 6 years old at the time. They took the 3 other children with them when they sailed from the port of Newry on the 27th of October 1772. Sometime during the year of 1782 [he would have been about 16 years old then], arrangements were made for Robert to sail to SC to join the rest of the family. Letters indicated that Robert had indeed left Ireland aboard "a ship", enroute to SC. As best as we have been able to piece together, neither Robert nor the ship were ever heard of again. My question is, is there a list somewhere indicating which ships left from Ireland in 1782, most likely from the port of Newry, enroute to SC? I really would like to try to tie up this loose end on this family if at all possible. Any and all help with this would be greatly appreciated. Bill Hughes [email protected] Peoria, Arizona ô¿ô SMILE, it drives the "normal" folks crazy!
My grandfather is William Hart. His birth record indicates he was born in the District of Meigh, Newry, County Armagh on 18 May 1873 (Anahay). Williams's parents were Ferdinand and Alice (Durnan) Hart. Present at the birth was a Judith L. Hart (I understand she was born 26 December 1859) according to the Certified Copy of An Entry of Birth. I understand William's siblings to be: Patrick (married Mary Ann Mallon, and named a son "Ferdinand"), Margaret (married John Loughran), ALICE (married Steven RICE), Lawrence, Mary, Thomas, and John. My Grandfather married Loretta/Laura Brennan in New York City, NY in 1911. He had been a fireman on an English ship out of Liverpool, England, and claimed asylum in the USA during War World I. Loretta had 4 children who survived to adulthood: Alice (my mother), William, Patrick Joseph, and John Lawrence. There are cousins through marriage with Loretta Brennan with the surname Daly, one of which was a nun. Her name was Mother Finbar, and I believe she ran an orphanage in Pennsylvania, somewhere near Pittsburgh. Please be advised that Alice Hart/Mrs. Stephen Rice lived at 88 St Anne Street, Birkenhead, England, according to a letter postmarked February 16, 1931. This letter was from Brigid Kelly (the return address on the envelope is: Anahaia, Killeavey Post Office, Nr.Newry, County Armagh). Are any of these relatives of yours? I hope to hear from you. Linda, I appreciate your offer to look up in the "Ulster Emigration to Philadelphia 1803 - 1850". I have been researching the Eagleson name, and there is an indication that some of them came into the country through Philadelphia in the time frame you mentioned, although conflicting information says through New York. Again, I appreciate your help. Sincerely, Terry

Hello fellow researchers, I have been a member of various list provided courtesy of Rootsweb. I am researching my g-g-grandfather Hugh Ramsey and my g-g-grandmother Jane Forbes. According to Hugh's naturalization papers, he was a native of Ireland. I know that he lived in Northern Delaware after 1862. I know that Jane Forbes had a brother Daniel Forbes who also lived in Northern Delaware. We also have in our possession a medallion, which we believe belonged to Jane, from Castlecaufield, County Tyrone, Ireland. I have been unable to find the ship Hugh came over on. According to gravestones, Hugh was born 11 March 1827 and Jane was born 4 March 1837. My uncle remembers stories told down the generations that Hugh came over with some brothers and settled in New Jersey about 10 years before Hugh came to Delaware. My mother believes it was said that they came into Philadelphia. We have letters from the golfer, "Porky" Oliver about being cousins. I have check the volumes of Famine Emigrants between 1845 to 1851. I have check Filby's passenger list, these have been updated yearly. Books on passengers into Philadelphia (and microfilm). I have hit the brick wall so much, we are on a first name basis. I am asking all research to help in my search! Any ideas, tips or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
