    1. MCWILLIAMS and MCDOWELL
    2. I am researching the MCWILLIAMS surname. My great, great Grandfather Robert MCWILLIAMS married Ruth McDOWELL 2 March 1865 in Kilrought. I know Robert died after 1896 because he was the informant on Ruth's death certificate October 25, 1896. They were living in Kilmoyange. Does any one know anything about the MCWILLIAMS and MCDOWELL surnames? I would love to find out any thing about my great- great grand parents. Terri

    1. HENRY - O`NEILL - STEEL
    2. James Henry
    3. I have been carrying out research on my family for a number of years and I have discovered that my ggg grandfather James HENRY was born in Ireland in the early 1800s. He married Catherine (who was born in Ireland in 1800) around about the year 1820 and they had two children. John HENRY was born in 1826 and Ellen HENRY was born in 1833. Both children were listed as born in Ireland. Later the family moved from Ireland to England and settled in the Newcastle upon Tyne area. >From other family research I suspect the family originated from the area of Derry, however I can not substantiate this. Later their son John HENRY (my gg grandfather) married Alice O`NEILL (born Derry in 1820) on 13 February 1853 in Newcastle. John and Alice had 5 children including my g grandfather John HENRY who married Margaret Ann STEEL on 25 November 1873. Margaret`s parents were John and Catherine STEEL. John STEEL and his wife Catherine were both born in Derry in 1831. Probably married in Derry before moving to Jarrow in Co Durham about 1851 Any information or assistance on how I can obtain further details would be greatly appreciated.

    2. Greetings While viewing films from the FHL on County Down I found filmed index cards of court transcripts, some of which had listed them 'PELHAM PAPERS'--these for the time period of about 1790-1800 or so. Can anyone tell me what this refers to? Thank you Carol Ashby 5655 NW 113th St. - Grimes, Iowa 50111

    1. Barr/Gillen/McIntyre/McCloskey...Coleraine
    2. David M. Dill
    3. Is anyone ought there looking for the above families? The information I have is as follows: Oliver and Ann McIntyre Barr of Killowen Parish, Ballycairn, Coleraine. Oliver b about 1785, Ann b about 1800. She died November 14, 1872, in Coleraine. They were the parents of known children, Samuel b Aug 20, 1819 and James b June 3, 1826. Samuel came to the U.S. about 1836, settled in Georgia where he married Marie Gillen of Coleraine. They then moved to Kentucky. Marie Gillen was born on the Rock of Gibralter, Spain, on March 14, 1820. (It is believed that her father was serving in military service there.) Her parents were Patrick Gillen and Ann McCloskey of Dunboe Parrish, Benarees, Coleraine. Patrick died in 1857 and Ann died in 1870. They were the parents of the following known children: Marie, Andrew Jackson b 1824, Patrick Henry, William, John and Sarah. It is known that several of these children came to the U.S. I would be happy to exchange information with anyone working on these surnames in the North of Ireland, Coleraine area. With warmest regards, Judy

    1. Old Folks Home in Dungannon
    2. Colin Ferguson
    3. -- Hello, I have been unable to find the deaths of either John or Margaret Ferguson of Tullyboy, Co Cavan in the Civil Registration. However, I find a John who died 1877 at age 94 and a Margaret who died 1874 at age 100 both in in Dungannon, Co Tyronne. The civil registration on these people does not give enough information to figure out who they are. I wonder if there is an old folks home here that persons from Co Cavan might have utilized. If so, I would like to search records of said home. Does anyone have knowledge of such a place? 3. Dear Rachael, Please don't worry about getting things "right." There are so many details involved in our searches that it just takes time, and the best way to learn is to ask questions, as you did. And it's a learning experience for all of us! I have been researching my father's Swedish roots for nearly 3 years and am just now at the point where my Irish and Scottish ancestors are becoming available to me for research. And even the differences in research from one country to another seem mind-boggling at times. One little "connection" builds onto another, and eventually things may come together. Just last night I had a contact with my Grandfather Priestley's niece in DE, who has yet another piece to that particular puzzle. My great-parents were both born in County Down, according to family records, but I'm slowly finding their roots are in Scotland before Ireland. It's like going on a treasure hunt with an aura of mystery involved. So much fun!!! Good luck to you! And I'll be interested in learning the methods of Irish research along with you! Cindy in VA
