    3. Hi Everybody, I just added a link to County Down, Ireland GenWeb page http://www.rootsweb.com/~nirdow/ about the Cemetery Photo Volunteers Web Page. This is a world wide volunteer effort. I included a link directly to volunteers in Ireland. Unfortunately, there are no volunteers on this page at this time. When some people from Ireland do sign up to volunteer, this website will be a great resource for people who want photos of headstones in places we ourselves cannot get to. A volunteer may charge for film and processing and postage. 1. Emigration - Ulster-Scotland.
    2. Dennis Phillips
    3. Here goes! Hello everyone. I have a problem, but then don't we all! My ggrandfather William PHILLIPS (Waterman) married my ggrandmother Elizabeth WAKEFIELD in LYMM,CHESHIRE,UK on 17 February 1878. He gave his age as 20 and his birthplace as GLASGOW. His father was given as a John PHILLIPS (Farmer). Extensive searches in GLASGOW & SCOTLAND before & after 1858 have turned up nothing. It has been put to me that William & family could have come over from ULSTER and that consequently William, presumably a child was not aware of this, hence GLASGOW. There were another couple of PHILLIPS's in LYMM , Marianne & Lydia ( ladies maids) both hailing from CRIEFF SCOTLAND according to the census of 1871. On the premise that William could have been related I had a search done in CRIEFF around the years of the girls' births again without success. William died aged 24 in 1882. My brother & I made it by 2 years in that my grandfather was born in 1880 - the only son! OK where and how do I begin the Ulster search? Can anyone help me?. Regards. Dennis. Dennis Phillips. Tasmania. AU.

    1. Surname McAbistin, Gaelic for Austin?
    2. Andrew and Kim Austin
    3. I recently received a tip from someone who stated that the surname McAbistin is sometimes translated into English as Austin. Has anyone heard of this name? Does it appear in any of the Irish surname books? Thanks in advance. Andrew M. Austin

    3. Greetings all: Several people have said that they would like a list of batch numbers for Northern Ireland, and no one has said there is one already in existence. Therefore; I will assemble such a list. When you access the LDS site and get batch numbers for different towns, parishes, etc send me a copy so I can add to the list. I will be starting with County Down and expanding from there. Searching for descendants of David Kennedy of Killyleagh, NIR 1796-1857. Also ancestors of David. Mike

    2. Timms, Roger Justice (JUS) ATG
    3. Thanks to all those who replied re the above. After looking carefully at another document where the same writer appeared to spell the name "Ryan" and considering the several references to Newry, I have decided, at least for the time being, that it is the Townland of Ryan in the Parish of Newry. Now, of course, I have no real idea what a "Townland" is in this context. Is it the equivalent of a "Township" in a County here in North America? Roger Timms

    3. Hello, I am looking for some advice here - I would like to try and locate a relative, AUDREY MOORE ( born 1948, parents ALBERT & MAUD ) who, the last time my family had contact with her lived in Belfast. Since she probably married and changed her name, telephone directories will be no good. Is there a suitable paper in Belfast that I could place an ad in? Thank you Alicia Reade Doncaster,UK

    2. For Ann, I found 2 Michael Roddys listed. One headed for Philadelphia in 1879, the other headed for Vermont (aged 42) in 1854. Nothing on Winnifred Coleman at all. On the O'Briens: there were LOTS of O'Briens listed. Did they go to Boston also? If they did, I found what appears to be 2 families arriving in Boston in 1849 and 1850. Unfortunately, the CD doesn't give departing locations - only the source of the information. Chris
