Hi Joey, >Recent subscriber seeking info re: "Langford Lodge" which is supposed to >be in Northern Ireland. In November, 1943, my grandfather was killed there, >and eventually buried at Cambridge, England. Have you checked the newspapers? I haven't researched to see if LDS has filmed Belfast newspapers of this period. It is easy to do so. Go to www.familysearch.org Click on "Custom Search". CLick on "Catelog" Select search for Place. Then you must do several searches since you do not know how the indexes indexed it. I'd search British Isles-Ireland Ireland and Belfast If not, I have the email addresses of several professionals in Ulster. As for registration, LDS has filmed the indexes and the certificates for Irish civil registration up into the mid 1950's. The indexes for post 1865 (when all events, irregardless of religion, were registered for all the population except for those who cleverly evaded the government and thus foiled their descendents in a search for them) tend to be in many smaller LDS Family History Centers. The one 5 miles up the road from me, for instance, has all the indexes between 1865 and 1900. You order the indexes. You find your man in the indexes. You then order the film with the actual record on it. All of this requires a bit of knowledge to do without screwing it up and ordering the wrong film. I might also add the indexes are quarterly and you may not find your ancestor in the quarter you think if the event was either registered late or the records were sent a wee bit late into the registration offices from the local district. So a fella born presumedly in December, might appear in the indexes of Q1 of the next year. All of this is far easier to do in the USA than to do on the island of Ireland -- either country -- because the facilities there get quite busy and are not designed to accomodate the traffic. So do it in the USA before you go to Ireland. You can then get more info on the family in the 1901 census -- but you will need the address of the family to do that. You can do that in the USA, though it helps to have experience with these records. So read your way, at a minimum, through www.genuki.org.uk and print out the LDS guides at www.familysearch.org. If you decide to hire someone to do it, you can hire someone in the USA and not have to get involved in currency exchange -- but make sure the person knows Irish genealogy. (The records differ significantly from Ohio) Best of luck! Linda Merle He was a civilian accessory mechanic working for Lockheed Overseas Corporation, and was struck by a government vehicle on his way back to his post. I would like to find a death certificate for him if possible, and learn something about Langford Lodge.

Hi, There is no town or townland with that spelling of Firune. Could possibly be: Townland: Finure Parish: Corkbeg County: Cork Patricia
Hi listers: I have a badly written note regarding location of place of birth for an ancestor. The location looks like Firune, Ireland. Can someone tell me if this place existed as a city, town, county, etc., back in 1827? If confirmation can be found, please tell me where the location is today. Thank you very much. Ed DUFF [email protected]
Can anyone tell me where I can find Co.Tyrone lists?
Hi! I am new to the list and thought I'd jump right in. The family history that has been passed down is as follows. In the early 1800s, LORD IRWIN from Armagh, who was protestant and a widower, had an only daughter, Harriet( my gggrandmother). She fell in love with Patrick MCCAFFREY, who was their hired hand and catholic. They ran off to Scotland to get married. Patrick and Harriet later emigrated to Canada. I have the family history confirmed once they reached Canada, about 1841. I would very much like to confirm this story. Any help would be wonderul. Thanks to all, Leigh McCaffrey in Osgoode, Canada searching: MCCAFFREY, IRWIN, MCCANN

There were a lot of Gillespies in Cecil County MD where they settled in early 1700's. They arrived in this area along with Ewings, Porters and a few of my family (Polks). There was a strong Scotch-Irish community in the Octoraro, Nottingham and Rising Sun areas. Some are found in Cecil County to this day and others moved on to PA and Va, etc. I don't have a good reference for this, but you should contact the Cecil County Historical Society. I feel that my family probably came from Ireland because the area that I come from was settled by the Scotch-Irish (I'm a member of that mail list also). I've checked some phone books in the north east of Ireland and there are alot of Gillespies in the Donnegal area. I look forward to hearing from anyone researching this surname. K. Can anyone give me any information on this individual? He was a minister, I suppose of the Presbyterian faith, who was quite elderly in 1901 who spoke at a '"Farewell Meeting in Ireland" in Belfast in 1901. For some reason, when my grandparents emigrated to the U.S. in 1909 and 1910, they brought this announcement with them and kept it for all these years. [email protected] (Marian from Richmond VA)
Does anyone out there know if Urney Street is still in Belfast and if so, where it is?
