    2. Larry Coats
    3. Back in April 2000, I briefly corresponded with a William Hamilton regarding this family and some of its branches in Co. Tyrone. Since then, my email crashed and burned, taking with it William Hamilton's address. Such is life. William, if you are on this list, please contact me as I would like to continue our discussion regarding this family and cadet lines. And, if anyone else can help me fill out the rather emaciated lineage that I have on this family, please feel free to join in. Regards to all, Larry D. Hamilton Coats

    1. [NIRGW] Hamilton of Donemana and Manor Elieston, Co. Tyrone
    2. Larry Coats
    3. I have a rather incomplete pedigree for the descendants of Sir William Hamilton of Donemana/Dunnamannah and Manor Elieston, eldest son of Sir Claud Hamilton(d. 1614), and I need more information regarding this family. What I have, in brief, is this: Sir Wm Hamilton of Donemana(1604-1662) was married at least three times, and by one of these wives, was father of a Sir James Hamilton of Elieston. His third marriage was to a Lady Beatrice Campbell, by whom he had a son, Claud, of Montaloney/Munterlony, whose descendants became known as the Hamiltons of Beltrim(later Cole-Hamilton of Beltrim)and the Hamiltons of Montalony, Woodbrook, and Strabane. The outline, as best I can piece it together, goes like this: 1.Sir Claud Hamilton of Schawfield, Killeney, and Teadane(d. 1614) 2a. Claud Hamilton(1648-1692)of Monterloney, etc. 3a.Claud Hamilton of Monterloney, Woodbrook,etc(1673-1736)m.Isabella 4a.Sir John Hamilton of Woodbrook(1763-?) 3b. William Hamilton of Renimore and Beltrim(1671-1746) 4a. Claud Hamilton(>Cole-Hamiltons of Beltrim) 4b. William(?) 2b. James Hamilton of Manor Elistoun. 2c. Arthur Hamilton(?) If anyone can provide me with a lineage for these Hamiltons, I would be most grateful. I don't live anywhere near a decent/large library or a FHC, and I am just about at the end of my resouces. If, perhaps, this lineage can be had from a published source, that by itself would be a god-send as then I could likely get it via ILL. Regards to all, Larry D. Hamilton Coats

    1. [NIRGW] BARCLAY c. 1670-90 Ulster
    2. Larry Coats
    3. Without much luck so far, I am trying to track down the origins in NI of one William BARCLAY, b.c. 1670(possibly in or near Glasgow Scotland)and who d. in Lancaster Co. PA c. October 1732. His wife was Mary_______and we know of at least three sons: Hugh Barclay b. 1702 d. 1754 PA; Wm Barclay; and John Barclay, d. 1764 PA, who married Martha McConnell(in PA). Perhaps not so strangely, this Martha McConnell(1704-1795)was the dau. of John McConnell by his wife, Elizabeth Barclay(perhaps or perhaps not related to this Wm Barclay above). This Elizabeth Barclay is said to have been b. in Ulster c. 1686, but I don't have any more info on her. My best guess at this point is that these particular Barclays(para 1 anyway)were possibly settled in Co. Tyrone c. 1670-80. It is believed that Wm Barclay married his wife, Mary, in Ulster c. 1690. And, it seems also very likely that these Barclays were from Ayrshire originally, but I am only making an educated guess on this point. If there are any NI Barclay experts on this list, please contact me; my available resources are running a bit thin right now. Regards to all, Larry D. Hamilton Coats

    1. [NIRGW] Creelman/McLeister family of Coleraine
    2. michaela stevens
    3. Hello Listers I am researching my CREELMAN ancestry and I've hit a brick wall! Sarah MCLAUGHLIN, my great-grandmother had 2 children with John CREELMAN, in the 1880's, Robert(?May 1887) and Elizabeth. I can find no record of birth for these 2 children in Ireland, though there is a vague rumour that Robert was born in USA/Canada, possibly Philadelphia. Sarah went on to have 3 children with a John MCLEISTER - John(1892), Joseph(1894) and Samuel(1895), my grandfather. All were born in Coleraine, Co. L'derry. Sarah then had a further 2 children with John CREELMAN, in Coleraine - Sarah(1898) and James(1901). I can find no record of marriage in Ireland for Sarah MCLAUGHLIN to either John CREELMAN or John MCLEISTER, though, I guess, if Robert was born abroad then perhaps Sarah married abroad too. In any case, Sarah and John CREELMAN lived as man and wife and ALL 7 children took the CREELMAN name. The family home was in Brook Street, Coleraine. Sarah died in 1917, age abt. 53, and John died in 1926, age abt. 71. They were Presbyterian. Does any of this sound familiar, can you help? And what happened to John MCLEISTER? Michaela Stevens, Bedfordshire

    1. [NIRGW] Shamrock Tombstone Transcription Project
    2. Carol Hepburn
    3. Forgive the reposting - had a problem with my email earlier today. Best Wishes, Carol Hepburn chepburn@qwest.net Phoenix, AZ USA **************************************************************** The IrelandGenWeb Project is pleased to announce that the SHAMROCK Tombstone Transcription Project is now an official part of the IrelandGenWeb Project as a Special Project. Please see below for a description of the project. SHAMROCK Tombstone Transcription Project http://community.webtv.net/shamrockroots/tombstones IrelandGenWeb Project http://www.irelandgenweb.com <><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><> Often the tombstones of persons born in Ireland will list their birthplace in Ireland on the stone. This can often provide the needed clue to continue a family history study in Ireland. SHAMROCK listmembers began contributing tombstone transcriptions which they have found in their own research, either of their own family members or just of tombstones they have come across while doing their research. Originally, these were transcribed to a webpage, but we quickly realized this project had the possibility of growing very large, and so in May of 2001 arrangements were made to transfer this project to a board where persons could enter their own data, and which would be searchable. This also will help guarantee that the data will always be available to researchers. You do not have to be a SHAMROCK listmember to contribute to this project! What is this transcription project for? ------------------------------------------------ This project is for tombstones -not- located in Ireland which indicate a place of origin in Ireland. These may be in your family, or may be just tombstones you have come across while searching a cemetery for your own ancestors. Have you come across a tombstone which shows a place of origin in Ireland, whether it is your family or not? If you have, please consider listing it in this project..... it just may provide a needed clue to someone else. What is not acceptable in this project? --------------------------------------------------- It is -not- acceptable to take information already published in a copyrighted book or article and place this on the transcription board. Please obey copyright laws! Any transcription found to violate copyright will be removed from the board. Only tombstones not located in Ireland should be included. **This project is not for transcribing tombstones from cemeteries within Ireland itself, or for asking for lookups or information on cemeteries or for general queries. Please do not submit tombstone data which do not meet this criteria. Inappropriate postings will be removed from the board without notice. 3. Hello All, Are there anyone searching for these names? John Rice married Jean Otterson, John was a Professor of Mathematics at Bainbridge County Down Ireland. Unfortuently I have no dates. They had one son David Rice. He married Miss Surley. No dates. They had one son Thomas Rice. He married Catherine Anne O'Hare in 814. (I am searching for birth and death dates and where they all came from.) Thomas and Catherine had a daughter Elizabeth Rice born 1832,died 1914.... married William Shirley Purcell in 1854, born 1854 and died in 1905, William is my GGgrandfather. The next name I have been searching for more information on is Nicolas Purcell, born at Castle Comer County Kilkenny Ireland. No further information. Needing birth and death date and wife's name and same information on her. Nicolas and (unknown wife) had a son Tobias Purcell born 1795 in Castle Comer County Kilkenny Ireland died 1869 in Atchison County Kansas. Married Margaret Kavanaugh in 1821 in County Wexford Ireland. Supposedly Nicolas is decended from Lord Hugh Purcell of Waterford County Ireland. (would like confirmation on this, have been unable to locate any). Thomas and Margaret are William Shirley Purcell's parents. Arthur Leacy born March 22 1850 in County Wicklow Ireland died 1916 (I think in Atchison County Kansas) have been unable to locate his parents and if he had any other siblings. John Fargus no dates of birth or death but supposedly born in Murisk County Mayo Ireland. Wifes name and particulars are unkown, have been searching for that information. John and unknown wife had 5 children. Supposedly John Fargus owned the Barony of Murisk, Ireland (haven't been able to confirm this) the property was confiscated by the British because he and his four sons took part in the Irish Rebellion?? Unable to confirm this also. I am not asking anyone to do my search, but if suggestion would come in as to how I could jump start my stalled searches, I would be greatly appreciative.
