Hello listers, Your help would be greatly appreciated, if you could give me information on William Henry Walker Edgar and his wife Elizabeth M. Edgar. They lived in Belfast, Northern Ireland. William died in 1939 aged 64 and Elizabeth died in 1954 aged 73. History has it that they were second or third cousins. I would like to know when and where they were married. Their first child was born 1902-1903. That probably would help with the marriage date. Information on this line would help me decide if this is the direction I should go. Thanking you in anticipation. Joan. _________________________________________________________________ Get your FREE download of MSN Explorer at http://explorer.msn.com/intl.asp
Searching for any information on my great-grandmother. Martha Jane Flinn born circa 1842. Father Thomas Flinn who was a Steward. She married John McCallister 20 March 1867 Aghaderg C of I in Loughbrickland. Died 3rd July 1887. A search of the original church records going back to 1832 revealed only one death of a Mary Flinn aged 77 who died in 1841. I had hoped to find Martha Jane’s baptism. No other Flinns at all were found in the church registers. Any help in finding where she came from would be greatly appreciated. T.I.A. Buried with wife at St Kilda cemetary on the 19th COMMENTS Birthdate >From the Trial documents of 21/03/1839 he was aged 21 (therefore b.22/03/1817-21/03/1818) >From the Convict Indent of 25/01/1840 he was aged 23 (therefore b.26/01/1816-25/01/1817) >From bth cert. of Edward on 02/11/1867 he was aged 42 (therefore b.03/11/1824-02/11/1825) >From registration of death on 16/12/1900 he was aged 85 (therefore b.17/12/1814-16/12/1815) The age from Edwards Bth certificate can be discarded since the source has proven to be unreliable in other regards (shows their marriage in 1843 when we have the registry entry for it in 1850). I would say that we must assume he was born between 1814 - 18 although I would lean towards the ages given in earlier sources: 1816 - 18 Continued on next posting Alan Anderton, Bargo NSW Australia

Greetings All: Today I was at the Main Library in Cincinnati for a couple of hours. The online catalog listed several magazines of interest. Unfortunately the catalog did not tell which vol numbers the library owned nor which issues were in which volumes. The magazines were not in the public area to be browsed. I had to order one to be brought up from storage, browse thru it to see if any articles were of interest, then order up the next. What I would like to know is: Does anyone have the following magazines? Do they have index volumes? Would SKS check and see if the magazines have articles on Killyleagh, County Down or Kennedy family's of County Down and/or Killyleagh? The magazines are: 1.. Irish Family Links, Past and Present (or Family Links, Past and Present). 2.. Irish Ancestors 3.. Irish Family name Society Newsletter 4.. Irish Genealogical Helper 5.. Irish Genealogical Research Spociety Newsletter 6.. Irish Genealogist 7.. Irish Heritage 8.. Irish Heritage Links 9.. Irish Historical Studies 10.. Irish Life 11.. Irish Roots. List, This is what I have: Edward Rice leaving County Tyrone with a Certificate of Good Character signed by his rector, the Rev. George Cope of Parish of Killyman, Barrony of Dungannon dated June 12, 1736. Later, in the colonies in the first tax record found for Edward in Bucks County, PA., lists him as a "weaver". We believe that prior to Edward being in Co. Tyrone, he and his father Edward left from somewhere in Wales around 1724 to come to Ulster. Questions: * Was it commonplace for all leaving Ulster to have in their possession a Certificate as mentioned above? * Was weaving a profession of many persons in Ulster, or just Co. Tyrone. How big of an industry was weaving? * Would Edward, if being in the weaving industry in Ulster in the 1730's, be self-employed in his own home, or would he be employed by someone? * In Co. Tyrone in the 1730's, would one be a landowner, or would he be a renter from a landbaron? Thanks, Bob Rice
For many years I have been searching for my G/grandfather,James Timlin He was born abt 1826 One certificate I have gives his birthplace as Co.Mayo, and another as Dublin, but I have been unable to find him in either. But recently a grandson of his, is quite certain he was told that grandfather was born in Belfast, and went down to Sth Cork as he had been offered a job there. He married Frances Mary Kelly(nee Clark/e) in Skibbereen on 14 August 1857 There were five children born in Skibbereen before they all sailed for New Zealand Ever hopeful, Marie, New Zealand

My great-grandmother, Jane CARDOO and her twin sister Elizabeth were born somewhere in Northern Ireland in 1849/50. Their father was James CARDOO, mother Jane CARDOO, formerly BOWMAN. I should appreciate any information list members may have which might help me to trace their county of origin. Regards, Janet, in New Zealand

Does anyone have information about the James Grubbin, married to Margaret McCallum (variable), and their children Cathrine, Margret and James who came to live in Bathgate Scotland before 1881. The name later changed to Gribben. Also David White, born approximately 1842, who also came to live in Bathgate by 1891. Both men were coal miners. They are my g-grandfathers on my mothers side and I am now stuck. Sorry not to offer more; hope someone is looking for Whites or Grubbin. Fingers crossed. Helen
Dear Helen, I have info on a Catharine Gribbon/in from County Down Ireland b 1828 who emigrated to Philadelphia PA and m Francis Dugan ca 1855. Marilyn Partee
Greetings All: I was wondering if anyone has information on the Church of the Latter Day Saints (Mormon Church) or Brigham Young University DNA database project to trace families by using DNA, in Northern Ireland or Scotland. Have they been advertising the project or taking samples in those areas? If so, how is the response? Good, bad, small or large? Here in Dayton Ohio, their research team has collected several hundred, and maybe as many as 1300 samples and are still requesting more. Each donor must have researched a 4 generation family tree to match with the DNA sample. The sample is code numbered with no name of donor. When the database is completed, donors can request results by getting a request kit. In the kit is material to take a saliva or blood sample and send it to the database requesting results. This salive is used to verify the information is only sent to the original donor. It would be great to be able to link back to NIR or Scotland using the database they are building. Please let me know if they are collecting in County Down or SW Scotland. Mike Kennedy Dayton Ohio
Dear Jeremy, I have researched my mother's maiden suname of McQuatters on and off for about 5 years now. Her surname was spelled McWatters in Norhtern Ireland and was changed when our ancestors came to America in 1853-54. My McWatters came from the Newry, Co. Down area. The man's name was James McWatters and his wife's name was Jane Jardine McWatters. They settled in Indiana for 20 years before coming to northern Iowa for the rest of their lives. They raised 7 kids; the first one being born in Northern Ireland and coming over to America with his father. His name was William. He is my GGGrandfather. If you would like more info on the McWatters surname, let me know my e-mail is jntatkns@omnitelcom.com Thanks, Terri in Iowa
I am trying to contact anyone who has information relating to VANCE families(likely Scots)in N. Ireland or in PA/VA during the period c. 1680-1786. I have a Rachel Vance b.c. 1766(prob. in VA) who married a James Hamilton in Augusta Co. VA in 1786. However, aside from locating a Vance family in Bedford Co. VA c. 1757, I have not been able to establish Rachel's parents' names. I've not found a connection between the Bedford Co. Vances and this Rachel in Augusta Co.but there may well be one. My information is that there were Vance families in Derry during the plantation period in Ulster, and that some were prominent merchants in Londonderry and vicinity. However, as I don't have much more than Rachel's name, I am pretty much stuck. Any leads/clues would be appreciated. Regards, Larry D. Hamilton Coats
