It wasn't until Dave reminded me of the songs of his that I remembered what he actually sang. When I was little, my nan owned a 3 story boarding house at Central Pier, Wilton parade to be exact, and most of my summer holidays were spent there. My nan believed in children being seen but not heard, sometimes not even seen. 7.30 pm every night we were sent up to our room in the attic, where we would stay locked in until the next morning. The lady who came every morning was none other than Long John Baldrey's mother. She was my nan's cleaning lady, while he was living it up. She always collected all the comics and old magazines that the guests had left when she cleared their rooms. They were really welcomed by us as we were so bored in there. The room only had one bed, a dressing table and a chamber pot. Every night my sister and I used to bounce up and down on the bed, making funny faces in the mirror of the dressing table. We found a spare set of keys in the drawer of same, and finally found a way out. Every night after that, we would sneak out for a wander around the house. Until one morning nan decided to wake us up with Uncle Arthur in tow, and instead of unlocking the door, she was locking it. We had forgotten to lock it ! We just played dumb. Then Uncle Arthur in his strong Northern accent bellowed...... "WHO'S DONE TORPEDO IN POT ? " It want me it were er........honest :) Best wishes Angela Cyprus
