I realized some time ago that the only way my ancestors appeared in Debrett or similar tomes would be as the result of some lord of the manor exercising his droit du seigneur. Nothing I have discovered so far has swayed this belief. Perhaps this lady was American. In the US there seem to be a large group of organizations such as the DAR which one can join by showing one is descended from the right ancestors.
