    3. Marge, I dont know who you are answering to here, but after reading freddie O Connors book , I am glad that, all over this country, people are more comfortable than our ancesters were. The poverty and deprivation take some imagination to behold. There was an arcticle in last saturdays guardian about a very middle class biographer who was writing about AJPTaylor the historian, this guy had thought that his family had always been from the comfortable middle classes down south, One day a few years ago a parcel containing old photos and letters was delivered from australia and there was a letter dated 1896 from a 13 year old girl in liverpool, her mother had just died in childbirth and she was left to look after herself and four brothers, her father was never around and was drunk most of the time, he had sold everything he could so the children had no shoes , no bed to sleep in and nothing to eat, they would have been dead in amatter of weeks except for this letter to her uncle in Altrincham cheshire ,he came ,took the children and brought them up as his own and but for this act of kindness this biographer would never have been born because one of the children was his grandfather. Shook him up a bit to realise that life is so tenuous and fragile, he came to liverpool and went to where his grandfather and great aunt (who wrote the letter) lived but by then every where was demolished, he gave thanks all the same to that very brave little 13 year old girl who made life possible to him. I can imagine tales like this happening all over , and worse. Think I will take up writing after this :-) Danny ----- Original Message ----- From: "Marged" <marged@btinternet.com> To: <NORTHERN-ENGLAND-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Saturday, November 25, 2000 5:33 PM Subject: [NTH-ENG] MY LIFE > Yes, my life is comfortable, and if it's blinkered, well - I wouldn't know would > I?
