Teatime originally was around mid afternoon when ladies sat ant nattered with a cuppa and a cake. A filler between lunch and dinner [usually around 8 p.m.] Then teatime became a main meal around five for those not posh enough to have Dinner. It also fitted in with the starving kids coming home from school and the workers of the country [not the posh ones] coming in from the factory or the pits. Course, the greedy ones had two teatimes and dinner at 8. That's where you get yer after 8 mints.
