A while ago Glenda asked about the age of the cross of Saint George. Intuitively I felt it dated from the about 1100 and the Crusades. This seems to be so. As a child in England we played Saracens and Crusaders, using the battle cry 'England and Saint George!' Saint George's day is April 23. Some years ago the Vatican pruned the Saints Calendar of those saints who lacked sufficient proof for their existence. Saint George was deleted but he still lives on in England. Here are some URLs I found on the history of the flag of Saint George and the Union Jack. The latter nowadays consists of the crosses of Saint George, Saint Andrew and Saint Patrick. http://www.troop7.org/Flags/ http://www.fraser.cc/FlagsCan/Nation/Union/html http://www.crwflags.com/fotw/flags/gb/html#hist Have fun.
