While we have had hard winters in the interim, in 1978 we had a surprise blizzard which lasted 3 days & literally everything's was shut down. When the weather broke, front-end loaders had to clear the way for traffic & main roads were barely passable for weeks. During the storm, people were stranded in places other than their homes with no provisions for a minimum of 3 days. Local restaurants were very popular as soon as these people were freed from their prisons. There were some that were trapped on oil rig sites out in the middle of nowhere, some of these were friends & family. One small box of provisions for 5 men did not last. By the time the front-end loaders got to these sites & the men drove out, the road was reduced to one lane with every quarter mile having a pull off for two-way traffic & the banks were so high you couldn't see over them. When I went to view the area, this was one spot that fascinated me. The banks were like huge white frozen walls. Took a lot of thawing that year to see ground again.
