I presume that it is not usual for that amount to fall in one day. The temperatures have hovered around freezing all day again today. At least I managed to get the shower working again. For some reason the hot water supply to it freezes. I live in an old house, no felt under the tiles so the wind blows straight in and out again. The pipes are lagged well but for some reason this particular pipe will freeze as it crosses the cold water pipe as it stands up a bit. Anyway we think we have sorted it this time - I have turned the heating up so the landing is quite warm now and I have put the heating on in my son's bedroom. I usually keep the radiator's turned to the defrost setting but my middle son pointed out it was false economy to only keep low heat in an unused room and then have to pay a plumber to repair a burst pipe!!! I think what he was really complaining about was the fact that to get in the roof you have to pull yourself up through the loft hatch and I can't do it easily now - so guess who I call for !!! It is a very small trap door - just wide enough to get your shoulders through diagonally. Maggie
