    3. Thank you Jim, I am feeling better and it is great to feel better !! Your good wishes are very much appreciated; it helps to know that people care and are concerned. I love the mountains and when they are snowcapped and covered...they are even more special. Please tell me about the Pennines. Do they get much snow ? Certainly don't blame you for not wanting to have an accident in your car before trading it. What is your new car going to be ? Regards, Glenda >Hi Glenda hope you feel better, from our house we can see the Pennines and >they're covered in snow but we haven't ventured that far because we're >changing the car on 30th Dec and we don't want to bend it in the snow at >this late date. 8>]]) > >Jim Sharpe Manchester UK

    3. Hi Glenda, nice to know you're feeling a bit more chipper. The Pennine chain is a ridge of hills which run down the middle of England from the Cheviot Hills in the Scottish border country to the Peak District in Midlands. Some people call them bleak but I think they're rather grand. The countryside is mostly moorland with little villages in the valleys. The Pennines get much more snow than we do because they're higher in altitude so I would think that today they will be at least knee deep. I remember going to a restaurant up there one New Year named "The Black Lad" (very politically incorrect) and the road had been snow ploughed so that all you could see were two seven feet white walls. Naturally we clambered on top to drink in the marvellous views of the snow clad hills. The trees and hedges are so pretty with their bare branches picked out with frozen snow. Another New Year when it hadn't snowed we spent an afternoon watching adventurous people of all ages diving off a sheer escarpment several hundred feet high with sail planes ( I don't think that's the proper name but they're like one man gliders). We were talking to one lady in her sixties who brought her glider in her car most weekends. It looked pretty hairy to me. We often go for lunch in the village pubs of which there are dozens within reach. These pubs often serve 'real ale' which has been brewed in small local breweries. There are a number of local Saddleworth brews, most of which are very palatable. The food served is very good and prepared on the premises any using pre-packed frozen food would soon lose their custom. One of my favourites is Rag Pudding which is a delicious beef pudding boiled in a cotton rag. I do suspect that these may be bought in as they say, but they really are delicious. Concerning our car, at present we have a Renault Megane which is a lovely comfortable car but my knees are not what they were and I tend to fall into the seat and getting out of the car is something else. So we've decided, Dorothy and I, to change it for a Renault Scenic which is built higher and the seats are easier to get into and indeed out of and it has three separate rear seats and loads of storage space. Hope all this makes sense and I hope you have a lovely New Year and Real Millennium as they say. Jim Sharpe Manchester UK ----- Original Message ----- From: Glenda R.
