    1. [NTH-ENG] Texan takes on the Irish.
    2. Mikey
    3. A Texan walks into a pub in Ireland and clears his voice to the crowd of drinkers. He says, "I hear you Irish are a bunch of drinkin' fools. I'll give $500 American dollars to anybody in here who can drink 10 pints of Guinness back-to-back." The room is quiet, and no one takes of the Texan's offer. One man even leaves. Thirty minutes later the same gentleman who left shows back up and taps the Texan on the shoulder. "Is your bet still good?" he asks. The Texan says yes and asks the bartender to line up 10 pints of Guinness. Immediately the Irishman tears into all 10 of the pint glasses drinking them all back-to-back. The other pub patrons cheer as the Texan sits down in amazement. The Texan gives the Irishman the $500 and says, "If ya don't mind me askin', where did you go for that 30 minutes you were gone?" The Irishman replies, "Oh...I went to the pub down the street to see if I could do it first." Obviously written by a blonde Texan too, who obviously doesnt realise that they speak English cuz if he had said they were they drinking fools, they would have stuffed him into a barrel! lol. 1. [NTH-ENG] seeking Lamberts
    2. Dianne Turnbull
    3. Hi Listers, I am seeking information on my Lambert ancesters. My gggg-grandmother was called Isabella LAMBERT, and she was born in Jarrow in 1807. Isabella married William Bolam TURNBULL on November 29, 1828 in All Saints, Newcastle. Their children were; Edward, born 1830 Matthew, born 1832 (my ggg-grandfather) Robert, born 1833 Patience, born 1838 William, born 1839 George, born 1842 Deborah, born 1844 Mary, born 1846. Isabella died/was buried in Lanchester in 1871. Her Occupation was listed as Publican. Unfortunately, I do not know the names of Isabella's parents, or if there were any siblings to Isabella. I know this is a really long shot, but would anyone out there know anything of this family, especially the LAMBERT side? I have been unable to find Isabella's birth in the IGI files, or St Catherine's, any clues as to where else I could look? I would appreciate any help at all With thanks in advance Leanne Turnbull N.S.W Australia

    1. [NTH-ENG] As I
    2. Mikey
    3. As I was walking down life's highway many years ago I came upon a sign that read Heavens Grocery Store. And when I got a little closer the doors swung open wide. And when I came to myself I was standing inside. I saw a host of angels. They were standing everywhere One handed me a basket and said "My child shop with care." Everything a human needed was in that grocery store And what you could not carry you could come back for more. First I got some Patience. Love was in that same row. Further down was Understanding, you need that everywhere you go. I got a box or two of Wisdom and Faith a bag or two. And Charity of course I would need some of that too. I couldn't miss the Holy Ghost It was all over......... And then some Strength and Courage to help me run this race. My basket was getting full but I remembered I needed Grace, And then I chose Salvation for Salvation was for free I tried to get enough of that to do for you and me. Then I started to the counter to pay my grocery bill, For I thought I had everything to do the Masters will. As I went up the aisle I saw Prayer and put that in, for I knew when I stepped outside I would run into sin. Peace and Joy were plentiful, the last things on the shelf. Song and Praise were hanging near so I just helped myself. Then I said to the angel "Now how much do I owe?" He smiled and said "Just take them everywhere you go." Again I asked "Really now, How much do I owe?" "My child" he said, "God paid your bill. a long long time ago." This poem has been sent to you with love and ............ Regards, Mikey. 3. Hi Sue Used to use Dialpad.com last year to ring USA - free! Which was much better than $5 a minute. has some successful calls but one has to get used to the quality and sometimes turntaking. many colleagues use Net2Phone for ringing UK. There are others - you can also use a Webcam and see the caller. It is the future I'm sure but it won't always be free. Good luck. Mike in Saudi

    3. Hi Joan, Yes Elizabeth would have been in receipt of an annuity. Quite how you trace it is another matter. I assume it could have been as the result of employment ? , or contributions to a policy - much like a pension fund today, or even a provision by a relative. Bearing in mind how many times some insurance companies have changed names and ownership over the years ........... Annuitant: The beneficiary of an annuity who receives a stream of payments pursuant to the terms of the annuity contract. Regards Dave Allen > Hi > I'm new to this list, but my family came from the North East and I am tracing my ancestors. > I am intersted in the HOLMES family of Coundon and also a Whitfield GARDENER from Stanhope. 1. [NTH-ENG] PILOTS AND FLATLANDERS
    2. Mikey
    3. THE AXIS OF THE EARTH ROTATES ONCE EVERY 26000 yrs. 1. Every takeoff is optional. Every landing is mandatory 2. If you push the stick forward, the houses get bigger. If you pull the stick back, they get smaller. That is, unless you keep pulling the stick all the way back, then they get bigger again. 3. Flying isn't dangerous. Crashing is what's dangerous. 4. It's always better to be down here wishing you were up there than up there wishing you were down here. 5. The ONLY time you have too much fuel is when you're on fire. 6. The propeller is just a big fan in front of the plane used to keep the pilot cool. When it stops, you can actually watch the pilot start sweating. 7. When in doubt, hold on to your altitude. No one has ever collided with the sky. 8. A 'good' landing is one from which you can walk away. A 'great' landing is one after which they can use the plane again. 9. Learn from the mistakes of others. You won't live long enough to make all of them yourself. 10. You know you've landed with the wheels up if it takes full power to taxi to the ramp. 11. The probability of survival is inversely proportional to the angle of arrival. Large angle of arrival, small probability of survival and vice versa. 12. Never let an aircraft take you somewhere your brain didn't get to five minutes earlier. 13. Stay out of clouds. The silver lining everyone keeps talking about might be another airplane going in the opposite direction. Reliable sources also report that mountains have been known to hide out in clouds. 14. Always try to keep the number of landings you make equal to the number of take offs you've made. 15. There are three simple rules for making a smooth landing. Unfortunately no one knows what they are. 16. You start with a bag full of luck and an empty bag of experience. The trick is to fill the bag of experience before you empty the bag of luck. 17. Helicopters can't fly; they're just so ugly the earth repels them. 18. If all you can see out of the window is ground that's going round and round and all you can hear is commotion coming from the passenger compartment, things are not at all as they should be. 19. In the ongoing battle between objects made of aluminum going hundreds of miles per hour and the ground going zero miles per hour, the ground has yet to lose. 20. Good judgment comes from experience. Unfortunately, the experience usually comes from bad judgment. 21. It's always a good idea to keep the pointy end going forward as much as possible. 22 Keep looking around. There's always something you've missed. 23. Remember, gravity is not just a good idea. It's the law. And it's not subject to repeal. 24. The three most useless things to a pilot are the altitude above you, runway behind you, and a tenth of a second ago. IF THE EARTH'S AXIS WERE HORIZONTAL THE EARTH WOULD EXPERIENCE A YEAR IN 24 HOURS! UNLIKELY DUE TO ITS INSTABILITY BUT POSSIBLE. Regards, Mikey. Spectemur Agendo.
