    3. Just want to ask if anyone was lucky enough to see the programme "Charlotte Church in the Holy Land"? I think it was on Christmas Eve. I started off as a big fan of Charlotte and then went off her (normal for me - fickle). This programme was just SO visually beautiful in every way, on top of the music, that I had to leave the room during the last five minutes as the tears were tripping me, and I don't cry much because I am supposed to be tough. Sitting here now listening to Aled Jones "Voices in the Holy Land" on a CD. They are singing some real tear jerkers, for me anyway. Berlioz - "The Shepherd's Farewell" (Thou Must Leave Thy Lowly Dwelling) "O Holy Night" "O for the Wings of a Dove" Charlotte sang most of the same carols in her concert as Aled sang all those years ago. Glenda - you would like these young Welsh singers. She is only 14 now, and so beautiful and healthy looking. Poor Aled didn't really get the voice he wanted when his voice broke - he wanted to sing like Stuart Burrows, another favourite of ours. I did see Aled in "Joseph and the Dreamcoat" at Blackpool, and I'm afraid he just wasn't a mover and shaker. However, I have seen the Donny Osmod Video of "Joseph" a million times - every Wednesday for a year, and Aled Jones was as good as Donny Osmond. Best Joseph of all was the Australian boy, but sadly I can't remember his name. Come on you Ozzies - who was he? MARGED --- Outgoing mail is certified Virus Free. 3. Hi Glenda, nice to know you're feeling a bit more chipper. The Pennine chain is a ridge of hills which run down the middle of England from the Cheviot Hills in the Scottish border country to the Peak District in Midlands. Some people call them bleak but I think they're rather grand. The countryside is mostly moorland with little villages in the valleys. The Pennines get much more snow than we do because they're higher in altitude so I would think that today they will be at least knee deep. I remember going to a restaurant up there one New Year named "The Black Lad" (very politically incorrect) and the road had been snow ploughed so that all you could see were two seven feet white walls. Naturally we clambered on top to drink in the marvellous views of the snow clad hills. The trees and hedges are so pretty with their bare branches picked out with frozen snow. Another New Year when it hadn't snowed we spent an afternoon watching adventurous people of all ages diving off a sheer escarpment several hundred feet high with sail planes ( I don't think that's the proper name but they're like one man gliders). We were talking to one lady in her sixties who brought her glider in her car most weekends. It looked pretty hairy to me. We often go for lunch in the village pubs of which there are dozens within reach. These pubs often serve 'real ale' which has been brewed in small local breweries. There are a number of local Saddleworth brews, most of which are very palatable. The food served is very good and prepared on the premises any using pre-packed frozen food would soon lose their custom. One of my favourites is Rag Pudding which is a delicious beef pudding boiled in a cotton rag. I do suspect that these may be bought in as they say, but they really are delicious. Concerning our car, at present we have a Renault Megane which is a lovely comfortable car but my knees are not what they were and I tend to fall into the seat and getting out of the car is something else. So we've decided, Dorothy and I, to change it for a Renault Scenic which is built higher and the seats are easier to get into and indeed out of and it has three separate rear seats and loads of storage space. Hope all this makes sense and I hope you have a lovely New Year and Real Millennium as they say. Jim Sharpe Manchester UK ----- Original Message ----- From: Glenda R. 3. Had Lucy for the night last night. Not a good start to it as her Daddy said she couldn't have another chocolate biscuit, and the scene that ensued simply wasn't worth the principle. Got her into a good mood again by taking her to see all the lit up houses on the way home. She watched "Wizard of Oz" all the way through, then put MY coat on and tripped over it, banging her head on a glass cabinet. Got a big bump on her head, but fortunately it was very thick glass and didn't break. Had to say a prayer of thanks for that. Also had to let her have "Wizard of Oz" on again. Couldn't put her to bed in case she had a fractured skull. Refused to go to bed and it was after 10 pm when I settled her (by putting out the light and shutting the door). Got up this morning all sweetness and light, delighted to see her first snow. I bathed her and washed her hair and she was a picture when mummy and daddy arrived to play in the snow with her. Then she dragged a cup of black coffee over herself, all down one leg. Fortunately, when I make black coffee for someone I always put a little cold water in it first, and it had been standing about ten minutes, so it was not as bad as it could have been. The screams from the bath of cold water she was put into were worse than the screams from the slight scald. I wonder if I am the only person in the world who has watched the "Wizard of Oz" video two and a half times in the last two days? Did you know that the Peddler Man, when he is looking into his crystal ball, says twice "We have to look into the Internet"? Fancy that. Marged --- Outgoing mail is certified Virus Free. 3. Hi Brian, If you go to http://www.kempston.freeserve.co.uk/smb/ you can download POP3 Scan Mailbox and use it to read or delete e-mails from your server. If there's an e-mail stopping the rest you can use Scan Mailbox to read it then delete it. Works great for freeserve and some other ISPs but not sure about yours. Good Luck, TTFN Marion no snow here just frost :-(
