Gosh I've never heard that before! It always makes me laugh when someone on the inside wins, and I say "If you don't want them to win, don't sell them the tickets", but I never thought anyone would really do that! They have just raised £4,000 with a raffle for a quilt in our local hospice. I would have loved to have won that. You are right - you need an income to support any volunteer work you do. Sometimes I think "Why didn't I just give them the money and stay home". Marged | Any volunteer work I have done has always cost me money, Marged. You have to | pay everything every one else does plus donate to the cause too. Right now I | am selling tickets on a beautiful quilt. Hi Glenda Quiet Christmas here ( normally is ! ) . Only 1 1/2" snow at a guess ........ Was getting chilly this evening - rescued a sweatshirt from the Oracle , which I'm now wearing over my shirt to keep warm. Of course the Scottish amber nectar helps too ........... Hi Freda. I am ALWAYS glad to receive e-mail on any subject under the sun. I feel as though, in my old age (64) I have hit the jackpot. My only sister, Jen, died in March this year, in Calgary. The Lists I am on have stopped me from getting very depressed about this. [email protected] is what I am on, and also [email protected] If you put Rootsweb into your search engine, the whole thing will come up, and if you join one of these lists, you will make a lot of friends on the internet. I have signed off from Lancsgen because it is too deadly serious for me. ENG-LIV is serious too, but Northern allows us to talk about anything under the sun - although we try to keep a Northern connection. People from all over the world are on it, some of them very serious researchers looking for a little light relief. I am sorry to see that you have lost people dear to you this year. My own mum died 5 years ago. She lived with us at the time, and she died in a nursing home while I was away on holiday. I will always feel sad about that. But I feel worse about my sister because she was my younger sister and she shouldn't have died. My dad died in 1953, aged 41. Better stop. Getting maudlin - where did you go to school? I went to St Hilda's in Sefton Park, after Birchfield Road. I have been to St Mary of the Angels, Fox Street. I am a Catholic now, by choice. Wonder if it's what's in me coming out? Marj (call me anything - my "real life" friends call me Marj - Marged is for the Internet for various reasons) I am on the MARGED --- Outgoing mail is certified Virus Free. Hi Marged, Must admit the best bit is not having to wait to see the results ! Took some photos of some remote controls the other day - wasn't happy with them so deleted the pics and re-did them. Then I discovered that the light in my office was too poor for the autofocus to work properly ( I was using the flash ). When I was working for a living ... used to use film , take them to the 1/2 hour photo place, only to find they weren't any good , by which time you were £10 worse off ! I bought the fiche I'm working on because I can't wait for the official society edition, too impatient. Actually I think they're just doing a name index. I completed my Broughton name index ages ago so I thought I would continue leisurely with a full transcription of the parts which were relevant to my own researches which are Chorlton, Ardwick and Openshaw. You see I've lost my grandparents who were at Rogerson Court C-on-M in 1881 with one child and are not there in 1891 when they would have several children so I have to find them in 1891.
