    1. [NTH-ENG] HAPPY NEW YEAR
    2. Marged
    3. We have been out to our little job tonight and went straight from there at 9pm to Tesco, where it was very quiet and all the staff looked as though they were falling asleep. Made two attempts to buy a film for my steam camera (!) but couldn't get any sense out of the assistant, who stood with her arms folded gazing into space. Came out of Tesco with the impression that it was about 4 in the morning. Pleased to find it was only half nine. We are hoping to set off about half ten in the morning. I feel like Nanook of the North - you Americans and Canadians must have a little laugh up your sleeves at the way the Brits don't cope with a drop of snow! I've seen those plugs for your car in winter ("Mrs Anna - I believe in Snow") Have read and appreciated all the mail tonight but don't have time to answer individually. "JC Superstar" in Dutch? Well, I suppose Hosanna is the same in any language, and Alleluia too! I really do wish you all the very best for 2001 and thank you for the very many ways you have all helped me over the past six months, or not quite six months. See you soon MARGED --- Outgoing mail is certified Virus Free. Checked by AVG anti-virus system (http://www.grisoft.com). Version: 6.0.225 / Virus Database: 107 - Release Date: 22/12/00

    3. Nice one Glenda - passing it on! Marged | | THE MONTH AFTER CHRISTMAS | | 'Twas the month after Christmas, and all through the house | Nothing would fit me, not even a blouse. | The cookies I'd nibbled, the eggnog I'd taste | All the holiday parties had gone to my waist. | When I got on the scales there arose such a number! | When I walked to the store (less a walk than a lumber). | I'd remember the marvelous meals I'd prepared; | The gravies and sauces and beef nicely rared, | The egg nog and rum balls, the bread and the cheese | And the way I'd never said, "No thank you, please." | As I dressed myself in my husband's old shirt | And prepared once again to do battle with dirt-- | I said to myself, as I only can | "You can't spend a winter disguised as a man!" | | So, away with the last of the sour cream dip, | Get rid of the fruit cake, every cracker and chip | Every last bit of food that I like must be banished | 'Till all the additional ounces have vanished. | I won't have a cookie, not even a lick. | I'll want only to chew on a long celery stick. | I won't have hot biscuits, or corn bread, or pie, | I'll munch on a carrot and quietly cry. | I'm hungry, I'm lonesome, and life is a bore--- | But isn't that what January is for? | Unable to giggle, no longer a riot. | Happy New Year to all and to all a good diet! | | | ==== NORTHERN-ENGLAND Mailing List ==== | This list also allows Trivia postings about the region as well as serious genealogy research postings. | | --- Outgoing mail is certified Virus Free. 1. [NTH-ENG] A recipe for Happiness
    2. A Recipe for Happiness Take twelve whole months. Clean them thoroughly of all bitterness, hate, and jealousy. Make them just as fresh and clean as possible. Now cut each month into twenty-eight, thirty or thirty-one different parts, but don't make the whole batch at once. Prepare it one day at a time out of these ingredients. Mix well into each day one part of faith, one part of patience, one part of courage, and one part of work. Add to each day one part of hope, faithfulness, generosity, and meditation, and one good deed. Season the whole with a dash of good spirits, a sprinkle of fun, a pinch of play, and a cupful of good humor. Pour all of this into a vessel of love. Cook thoroughly over radiant joy, garnish with a smile, and serve with quietness, unselfishness, and cheerfulness. You're bound to have a Happy New Year. Wishing you all a wonderful new year, full of love, health and happiness, Maggie

    2. Hi Dave, I learnt years ago that my scales always lie...... <vbg> Mind you, I should have lost a couple of stones today chasing my little 'angels' around. My 4yr old granddaughter decided to poke a Cheddar bread stick into her brother's ear and no-one, except me, panicked. Luckily no damage was done, except for the crumbs all over the carpet as it crumbled. He was busy explaining the Pokemon game to me so neither of us saw Francesca in time.....kids....rofl. Maggie
