    3. Hi Glenda Going somewhere by rail ? You jest ! Since the Hatfield Accident , there hasn't been much rail to travel on. There's been service cancellations , speed restrictions and the biggest rail replacement program ever. Yesterday two trains nearly collided leaving a station ......... I'll walk or drive! 3. Dear Jean et al, Wannabes reminded me of a letter rec'd on a list I was on earlier in the year, it had a certain charm! A lady wrote in that she had discovered some ancestor, ' a Sir So & So', who was, A Knight of The Garter. She wanted further information about him before applying for membership! He lived several centuries before the Order was created. Seemingly, hers was a natural innocence, which indeed, has its own charm. Regards, Mikey. Spectemur Agendo.

    3. Dear Jean, Jealousy: That was the kind of response I expected from Annie, a bit like paying 10 Mill $'s for a Rembrandt, then be told it is a fake. The more they have paid the more genuine it must be, and of course as night follows day, 'To admit one has been fooled?', that comes after self deception, wanting to believe etc, the Auction rooms are full of them. You can take a person to the "Eau de vie" but you cant make them think, "Ecce homo!" :-)) "Ah! what can application do, Unless we have a gnius too? Or geniu how have cultivation Without due pains and application?" Unknown translator. Horace. Its that kind of thing ( sheer fantasy, gullabilty and self deceit, ) that made me return home and out of frustration paint all the coal in the coalhouse Green at the age of perception and attempted conditioning; my first Schoolday in 1948. I walked into school and was faced with children in a sandpit. Most of them were throwing the sand out, the teachers were putting it back in! I told my mother about it when I got home adding "But Sand is for mortar and building a house.", and we never saw eye to eye on anything ever again untill 2 days before her death. Excessive love, therfore easier to paint!:-)) Regards, Mikey. 3. I was thinking about this myself, Marged. After all a fair amount of the bible is devoted to begats. A close friend once pointed out her family were Levites and therefore the males were priests or entitled to be. Obviously they felt they could trace their ancestry back to Abraham.Whether or not one could come up with a written down genealogy to show this nowadays is a moot point. Since my friend's family came from a village on the Russian -Polish border and had been subjected to pograms there may be good reason for following the maternal line. Her grandparents left before WWII and came to the US luckily for them as the entire village was wiped out in WWII. 3. I have been told by Jewish friends that one's mother must be Jewish to be Jewish. Admittedly they came from very observant families. It must depend on the particular group of Jews. Nowadays I understand Israel will allow entry of anyone, like myself, with Jewish ancestry through a male line. Anyway my friends did not consider that a Jewish grandfather made me Jewish - especially as I was brought up Anglican and therefore a result of assimilation. 3. "I walked into school and was faced with children in a sandpit. Most of them were throwing the sand out, the teachers were putting it back in!" Always fun to frustrate the teacher and refuse to go along with her careful efforts to provide a well thought out educational experience. Having been both child and teacher, I guess that leaves me on the side of the sandbox. "But Sand is for mortar and building a house." Just no imagination, Mikey :-))))) Jean in NS

    3. I realized some time ago that the only way my ancestors appeared in Debrett or similar tomes would be as the result of some lord of the manor exercising his droit du seigneur. Nothing I have discovered so far has swayed this belief. Perhaps this lady was American. In the US there seem to be a large group of organizations such as the DAR which one can join by showing one is descended from the right ancestors. 3. I never noticed that, Mikey! In fact all the female line in ancient times is left out. Its stuff like this that made me a feminist. :-)) The lady in question is now hurling abuse at the Cheshire listers. She feel their caveats are mere jealousy because they lack such a distinguished genealogy. Her last words are "to H* with them". She says Rootsweb lists are never worth it.as they all react with the same sort of jealousy, etc.! ----- Original Message ----- From: "Mikey" <[email protected]> To: <[email protected]> Sent: Thursday, January 04, 2001 11:05 AM Subject: Re: [NTH-ENG] Fw: [CHS] Iintro > Dear Jean et al, > > Eve was left out; I wonder why!:-)) > "refs available"!; on & in which Planet & Universe.......... > > Coppock's Reward Notice seen on the Ark. > > caveat emtor, > > Elvis Presley & Gromit. > > > > > | > Hi!
