Hi Again Veneita, It usually says the father's name even if he is deceased. Sometimes it will say deceased and sometimes it won't. But I have never known the name to be omitted unless the they are not known, i.e. the child is illegitimate. And then, often, a fictitious name is put in. So what you have is new to me. I have just looked for a Dorothy STEVENS - HICKS marriage and there isn't one on FreeBMD. Of course it is not complete. I looked for George STEVENS born Glamorgan and found a George Thomas STEVENS b Jan-Mar 1891 and a George Burley STEVENS b Jul-Sep 1893. But the nearest I could find for Dorothy is a Dorothy Alice STEVENS b Jan-Mar 1896 in the Cardiff area. Of course I might be looking in the wrong area. Do any of those sound familiar. Your father's/mother's birth cert. may well give his/her father's middle name.
