Assuming the 1841 bap at Outwell is the correct Sarah - the 1841 census enumeration districts show some Fens in the area such as Boyce and Stow Bardolph but nothing for Bartle. Suggest finding a library copy [it costs a fortune to buy] of 'The Tithe Maps of England and Wales' by Roger Kain - this includes for Outwell district 1840 house, roads and drove names. HTH Jean
When I looked on Ancestry and entered nothing except Bartle Fen it returned a number of census entries for individuals who gave Bartle Fen as their birth place. I then looked at some of these individuals on other census years to see what they gave as their birth place in those years and one gave Stow and one gave Downham, which might suggest that Bardolph was being said Bardle or heard as Bartle in those instances. Not too far a stretch of Norfolk speak. One entry gave Bartle Fen Lincolnshire as a birth place but it was clear from another year that this was mistaken ditto mark for a husband's county of birth.
