    3. Many thanks to everyone. With your help I think I've got a satisfactory answer. The suggestion of maps reminded me that many years ago I bought an Archive CD of County Maps for Cambridgeshire, Norfolk & Suffolk. The 1892 map of Norfolk shows Bardolph Fen (not Stow Bardolph) directly to the East of Outwell. It appears to stretch approximately from the East bank of Middle Level Main Drain to Highbridge Road as shown on the 1999 Explorer Map 236. The Explorer Map has Stow Bardolph Fen in small letters in the middle of this area, but I can't tell if it covers exactly the same land. This seems to prove that it's possible for someone to be born just over the drain, but still consider themselves to be in Outwell. As the Sarah Wilson I'm looking for quotes her birth place as Outwell in later life and her father as John Wilson, deceased on her marriage certificate, I think this is as near as I shall get to proof of her family. It also picks up a known sister in the 1861 Census. Many thanks again to everyone who has helped. Another brick wall, if not completely demolished, at least extremely badly dented. Marjorie
