Hello Lisa, You posted the surname GIRDLESTONE and I have a few in my CULLING family tree for Norfolk, England as foollows: Mary Ann GIRDLESTONE and according to the 1851 Norfolk Census was born in 1814 at Catton (1861 Census place is noted), Norfolk. By the 1881 Census in Heigham, Norfolk, Mary was a widow and living with her daughter, Matilda WHITE nee CULLING. Mary Ann married Joshua CULLING, (b 1791) AT Norwich, Norfolk on 26 Jan, 1840. And, interesting for you in the US, Joshua died in Chicago on 23 Feb, 1876 at age 85 yrs. Mary Ann and Joshua had several children before he deserted her. The 1851 Norfolk Census states "deserted by husband" next to Mary Ann's name. I haven't yet found out why Joshua left Mary Ann and in particular, why he went to the US. I believe Mary Ann's parent were John GIRDLESTON and Mary. Further research is needed to confirm this. I will be pleased if you could let me know if this family ties in with yours? Also, do you think it is possible to find Joshua CULLING (b 1791) in the US? Hoping to hear from you and I am happy to share any further information. sincerely, Diane Foster - Western Australia On Wed, Dec 2, 2015 at 3:49 AM, Lisa Dayley via <norfolk@rootsweb.com> wrote: > Hey everybody: > I haven't posted in a while.
