    3. Nivard, Was there a notice email that went out to each of the county lists etc., that this Rootsweb 'upgrading' was to be started or in progress? If so, I somehow missed it. If not, I wonder if this wouldn't have been a help to all of us in understanding the problems we have been encountering. There have been problems accessing the lists archives for some weeks now The list search isn't working either, nor the browse mailing lists by name I have not heard a progress report to know how long it may be before things are working again but hopefully not to long So you are not alone, it is not a problem with your computer or system Rootsweb apparently have been upgrading Nivard Ovington in Cornwall (UK) On 20/07/2016 14:01, DavidTennant via wrote: > I've been trying to get onto the Yorkshire Rootsweb List. 3. Hi Donna To the best of my knowledge there was no warning posted or otherwise Neither is there a message on the Help page from Rootsweb home page My guess is they were not expecting it to be such a long process However if Rootsweb lists are down (as they were) there is no way to post a message to lists anyway A message on the Help page might have helped though but remember the lists are all run by volunteers and as the lists have been declining I do not foresee a huge investment in them, lets hope they continue Nivard Ovington in Cornwall (UK) On 20/07/2016 15:56, Donna Casey wrote: > Nivard, > > Was there a notice email that went out to each of the county lists etc., that this Rootsweb 'upgrading' was to be started or in progress? > > If so, I somehow missed it. > > If not, I wonder if this wouldn't have been a help to all of us in understanding the problems we have been encountering. > > Donna

    3. Thanks Nivard, A pre- sort of heads-up message would have been good. But certainly once the problem started...no chance of getting that message out. It would be a disaster if these lists deteriorate. They have been of great assistance to so very many. 3. I am hoping the vast amount of research information and knowledge amassed over the years in the lists archives, means it will be retained at the least I would like to think the lists will continue, the likes of facebook, whilst having some attributes are fairly hopeless for research in a general way, not least as there are no searchable archives with facebook, once posted its almost forgotten, and you need to be in the group to even see the post in most cases, such a waste of time and information I hope researchers will eventually see the light and return to the lists and see the many advantages of them over facebook I live in hope anyway Nivard Ovington in Cornwall (UK) On 20/07/2016 16:44, Donna Casey wrote: > Thanks Nivard, > A pre- sort of heads-up message would have been good. > But certainly once the problem started...no chance of getting that message out. > It would be a disaster if these lists deteriorate. > They have been of great assistance to so very many. > Donna
