I have found many descriptions of the fact that children are born out of wedlock. Bastard; Low Born; Base Born; etc. but I get the feeling from the fact that they were being baptised that these phrases were not the derogatory words we would think them today, but merely stating a fact. On a lighter note, I found this entry in a list of Norfolk baptisms. The last line is my invention!
