I tried to send this earlier in the week, but never saw it come through the list. Trying again. From: Jennifer Clark Sent: Tuesday, August 09, 2016 7:16 AM To: Norfolk@rootsweb.com Subject: Who was Anne Wase and what was her connection to the Starling, Carr, and Roe families of East Dereham? The Manor Court records for the Manor of East Dereham of the Queen (EDQ) dated 14 Apr 1729 include the admission of the following: John Starling, Matthew Starling, and the children of Thomas Carr deceased (Mary, Elizabeth, Anthonie) as heirs of Anne Wase. The record quotes her will, dated 6 Nov 1725. Each of the Starlings is to receive 1/3 and the Carrs are to share 1/3. In addition to the lands at Badley Moor, the will also states these heirs will share “all my Messuages, lands, and tenements whatsoever elsewhere in the said County of Norfolk.” Anne Wasey, Spinster of Beeston, was admitted to the EDQ property 5 Apr 1709 on the surrender of William Roe. John ( b. 1676) and Matthew Starling (b. 1681) were brothers, children of Robert Starling and Ann Fox. The 3 Carrs were grandchildren of Elizabeth Fox and Anthonie Carr. Elizabeth Fox and Ann Fox were sisters, daughters of Richard Fox and Ann Brett of Gressenhall. The 2 Starlings and the 3 Carrs are also mentioned in the 1725 will of Robert Fox, brother of Elizabeth and Ann. He also mentions Francis Roe, Rebeckah Bunting (late Roe) and Elizabeth Reynolds (late Roe). The Roes are children of a William Roe who d. 1712 in East Dereham. There are a couple William Roes living in East Dereham at the time, so I cannot be sure the 2 Williams mentioned here are the same. The 1680 will of Richard Fox, another brother of Elizabeth and Ann Fox mentions an unnamed “kinsman of Morton Hall, the son of Francis Rowe”, and seems to imply Francis Rowe married a sister of Richard Fox. The wills of the two Fox brothers seem to account for all their siblings and matches well with the Gressenhall parish records for the family. I have not been able to locate a probate record nor a death record for Anne Wasey/Wase. I have searched the Norfolk Record Office catalogue, in addition to having searched the microfilms of the indices several years ago. Also searched PCC wills. I’ve searched FreeReg, parish records for East Dereham and Beeston-next-Mileham for a burial record. Nothing. And, I have checked for Ann/Anne/Anne, Wasey/Wase/Wacey, etc. Does anyone have any further information of Ann? I welcome any and all suggestions of where to look next. Thank you, Jennifer Clark
