    3. Firstly the parish register itself is on the images on www.familysearch.org for Yarmouth St. Nicholas (entry no. 554 of burial register 1895-1899. I believe it is not indexed on familysearch so you will need to go direct to browsing images (image 37 of 158). The information given (including date) is true, but additionally the residence is given as King Street. (It is however indexed in Freereg). Note that all the references her are to the original parish registers. According to the Norfolk Record Office List the ATs and BTs do apparently go up to 1907 for baptisms and burials - the marriages stop in 1837. I agree the suggestion by Nivard in relation to the 1880 act is the most likely, particularly as the information is given instead of the information "By whom the Ceremony was performed". It would be worth searching the burial registers of the non-conformist churches and chapels to see if a record was entered by the person performing the ceremony. The other possibility is that this is some reference to the certificate from the registrar required by the 1874 act before a burial could occur, but in that case would not have expected this wording, and I would have expected it to occur more often in the register. regards Keith Drage Swindon UK On 04/01/2016 12:49, Nivard Ovington via wrote: > Hi Elizabeth > > There were various acts to do with burial over the years > > A very useful site for Acts relevant to the genealogist is Guy Etchells > > <http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.ancestry.com/~framland/acts/actind.htm> > > The Act I think is relevant to your case is the 1880 Act > > <http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.ancestry.com/~framland/acts/1881burialAct.htm> > > I note the burial records the note re the act in the space where the > incumbent would normally have their name > > > > Nivard Ovington in Cornwall (UK) > > On 04/01/2016 11:13, Elizabeth Macilwain via wrote: >> can someone help with why in the following entry >> >> England, Norfolk Bishop's Transcripts >> >> Name Thomas Drane Doughty >> >> Event Type Burial >> >> Event Date 01 Dec 1896 >> >> Event Place Great Yarmouth, Norwich, Norfolk, England >> >> Gender Male >> >> Age 66 >> >> Birth Year (Estimated) 1830 >> >> Certified according to Act of Parliament by Mary Ann Eliza Doughty >> >> Why was his burial certified by his wife in an Act of Parliament >> >> Thanks Elizabeth > --- > This email has been checked for viruses by Avast antivirus software. > https://www.avast.com/antivirus > > > ------------------------------- > To unsubscribe from the list, please send an email to NORFOLK-request@rootsweb.com with the word 'unsubscribe' without the quotes in the subject and the body of the message >
