    3. Are you sure of the date ? (seems a bit late for Bishops transcripts). The only act I know relating to burial was the burial in woollen act in the late 1600s, and early 1700s. It was to support the woollen trade. 3. Hi Elizabeth There were various acts to do with burial over the years A very useful site for Acts relevant to the genealogist is Guy Etchells <http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.ancestry.com/~framland/acts/actind.htm> The Act I think is relevant to your case is the 1880 Act <http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.ancestry.com/~framland/acts/1881burialAct.htm> I note the burial records the note re the act in the space where the incumbent would normally have their name Nivard Ovington in Cornwall (UK) On 04/01/2016 11:13, Elizabeth Macilwain via wrote: > can someone help with why in the following entry > > England, Norfolk Bishop's Transcripts > > Name Thomas Drane Doughty > > Event Type Burial > > Event Date 01 Dec 1896 > > Event Place Great Yarmouth, Norwich, Norfolk, England > > Gender Male > > Age 66 > > Birth Year (Estimated) 1830 > > Certified according to Act of Parliament by Mary Ann Eliza Doughty > > Why was his burial certified by his wife in an Act of Parliament > > Thanks Elizabeth --- This email has been checked for viruses by Avast antivirus software. https://www.avast.com/antivirus
