Just a quick think on it Bonnie- If you look at Google maps ( satellite view) you can see that the edge of Lakenham comes not far from the end of Ber Street and King Street and Bracondale. I believe that all are a old streets and Ber Street had a lot of old yards of houses that were demolished in slum clearances in the 20th century. However Fadens 1797 has clear gap between Lakenham and the edge of Norwich . Norfolk county councils E map explorer online http://www.historic-maps.norfolk.gov.uk/Emap/EmapExplorer.asp has the 1st edition OS map which might help. Enter Norwich in the search I suppose it depends on where in Lakenham he lived-the part that became New Lakenham would have been close to built up parts of Norwich. It might have hinged on who he was telling- if he gave Norwich as a birthplace because the person he was telling was more likely to know where it was or if he thought he had to give the nearest town Rosie On 22/08/2011 23:37, Bonnie Ostler wrote: > One of my husband's ancestors whom I believe was born Lakenham > 1780 identified himself in 1851 as having been born in Norwich.
