    3. Many thanks folks, for your suggestions. The idea that William was in the Army at that time is a big surprise, so I must try and follow that up. On his marriage certificate, his profession is labourer, so I always thought of him as a farmer.     3. I had a Joseph Rawlings marry my distant cousin Elizabeth Girdlestone family. For whatever reason the couple never married but had six children who all carried their mother's maiden name of Girdlestone. Elizabeth was the daughter of a Robert Girdlestone. Ring any bells?
