Also was wondering if SKS has a photo of Yarmouth Hospital Many thanks for any help Cheers Marilyn from Western Australia
hi Marilyn. there is picture of Yarmouth Hospital on the Norfolk County Council website. For listers who haven't come across this site, one can come up with unexpected gems from probate to pictures to catalogues of historical documents. http://www.noah.norfolk.gov.uk Daphne -----Original Message----- From: Watson Family Sent: Friday, July 22, 2011 1:45 PM To: NORFOLK@rootsweb.com Subject: [NFK] re Death TOM BISHOP 1918 Hi, I am pretty certain that the death of Tom Arthur Bishop was at Yarmouth Hospital, Norfolk He died in September 1918 at Yarmouth. Hi Daphne, many thanks for that info. That site is very good. I did finally get to read all Tom Arthur Bishop's navy records He was in the navy from 1889 then was discharged in 1910 (probably done his 20 year service.) He rejoined in 1914 as far as I can make out. I did find his death 29th June 1918 at Yarmouth So far I haven't been able to find him in the 1891 census or the 1911 census. He was on the "Terror" in 1901 He was born 1871 at Worcester Anyone that can help I would be most grateful Cheers Marilyn from Western Australia At 12:22 AM 23/07/2011, you wrote: >hi Marilyn. there is picture of Yarmouth Hospital on the Norfolk County >Council website. Marilyn Have you tried this? If you Google "Asylum Great Yarmouth" this brings up an Ancestry page, unfortunately some years old, which says that the records are held at James Paget Hospital, also in Yarmouth, and gives contact details. Perhaps JP hospital itself now has a website with useful info. The sad thing about all this is that Tom Bishop was clearly far from his roots in Worcestershire, and unless you know that relatives kept in touch with him, it is, alas, quite on the cards that he had to be buried in an unmarked grave, although the right cemetery records might give the position. Hi Daphne, From what I can gather that site doesn't have a photo of the Royal Naval Hospital at Yarmouth. The one that is there is an image of Great Yarmouth Hospital. Built 1838 so a later hospital than the Royal Naval Hospital. Still a good site but there is no photo there Cheers Marilyn At 12:22 AM 23/07/2011, you wrote: >hi Marilyn. there is picture of Yarmouth Hospital on the Norfolk County >Council website. Hi, the Royal Naval Hospital at Gt Yarmouth is now St Nicholas Hospital but there is on the www.great-yarmouth.co.uk website a very fine picture of the front of the building . and if you lived closer , the dates of the Open days for the hospital Its now a Grade 2 listed building . I would not know if there was a graveyard attached to the hospital or whether he might have been buried in St Nicholas cemetary , nor whether there would be a stone . life is hard . soften it with a cat \\\=^..^=/// ----- Original Message ----- From: "Watson Family" <watsonb@iinet.com.au> To: <NORFOLK@rootsweb.com> Sent: Friday, July 22, 2011 1:45 PM Subject: [NFK] re Death TOM BISHOP 1918 > Hi, > I am pretty certain that the death of Tom Arthur Bishop was at Yarmouth > Hospital, Norfolk > He died in September 1918 at Yarmouth. Hi Elizabeth, Couldn't find that hospital on that site. No doubt I am doing something wrong. I understood that it had been made into residential units now but maybe I understood that wrong Many thanks I found it interesting looking at Great Yarmouth Whom would I contact to find a grave? He actually died 29th June 1918. I would have thought htey could have at least given him a soldiers grave Cheers Marilyn from Western Australia At 12:59 AM 23/07/2011, you wrote: > Hi, the Royal Naval Hospital at Gt Yarmouth is now St Nicholas >Hospital but there is on the www.great-yarmouth.co.uk website a very fine >picture of the front of the building . and if you lived closer , the dates >of the Open days for the hospital Its now a Grade 2 listed building .
