    3. Hi I have come across a family in the 1891 census RG12/4125/66/15 in Chester-l-Street district James STOKES 43, Carlisle Harriet STOKES 44, Norfolk Margaret Ann STOKES 19, Heworth Dur William STOKES 16, Heworth Robert FARROW 22 step-s, Norfolk Lewis FARROW 26 step-s, Norfolk Louisa FARROW 25 wife of step-s, Woolwich James FARROW 4 son of step-s, Wardley Colliery Dur Harriet FARROW 2 dau of step-s, Wardley Colliery Dur Frederick FARROW 3mth son of step-s, Whickham Dur Has anyone come across the above Norfolk FARROW names ? – I am most frustrated that I cannot find them in 1901 or earlier census returns nor can I track the step-son relationship, presumably via Harriet as either her natural sons or a 1st marriage to a FARROW, nor where Lewis later vanished to !! Regards John E Farrow

    3. Farrow is a bit of a Sheringham name- and there are a lot of them on the lifeboat memorial plaques. Just musing on whether they came from and went back to a fishing boat life. Not helpful I know . Will see what I can see on Ancestry Rosie On 30/07/2011 18:12, John E Farrow wrote: > Hi > > I have come across a family in the 1891 census RG12/4125/66/15 in Chester-l-Street district > > James STOKES 43, Carlisle > Harriet STOKES 44, Norfolk > Margaret Ann STOKES 19, Heworth Dur > William STOKES 16, Heworth > Robert FARROW 22 step-s, Norfolk > Lewis FARROW 26 step-s, Norfolk > Louisa FARROW 25 wife of step-s, Woolwich > James FARROW 4 son of step-s, Wardley Colliery Dur > Harriet FARROW 2 dau of step-s, Wardley Colliery Dur > Frederick FARROW 3mth son of step-s, Whickham Dur > > Has anyone come across the above Norfolk FARROW names ? – I am most frustrated that I cannot find them in 1901 or earlier census returns nor can I track the step-son relationship, presumably via Harriet as either her natural sons or a 1st marriage to a FARROW, nor where Lewis later vanished to !! > > Regards > John E Farrow > > ------------------------------- > To unsubscribe from the list, please send an email to NORFOLK-request@rootsweb.com with the word 'unsubscribe' without the quotes in the subject and the body of the message

    3. I have been following this thread with great interest. The name Pharaoh has run in my line since the settling of Jamestown, and I feel sure that the name was originally Farrow, and was a surname used as a given name as a tribute to a maternal grandfather. However, Bardsley's Curiosities of Puritan nomenclature all but comes right out and says that my ancestor was from the West Riding of Yorkshire. ---------- Forwarded message ---------- From: xpn11 <xpn11@aol.com> Date: Sun, Jul 31, 2011 at 4:27 AM Subject: Re: [NFK] FARROW Lewis To: norfolk@rootsweb.com Farrow is a bit of a Sheringham name- and there are a lot of them on the lifeboat memorial plaques. 3. John The 1881 has them at 5029/109/11 under Stoker not Stokes and Louis and Robert as Correll not Farrow but living at the right place. Birth place for the Norfolk members is Knapton. Ancestry has a member tree which seems to have Harriet and her children as Pycraft/Farrow FBMD 1863 Harriet Farrow to Charles Pycraft The 1871 -4737/45/29 has a possible match for a Charles Pycraft and Harriet plus a Lewis and a Robert amongst the children. This is at Allerton Bywater near Leeds so some distance from the Durham village The tree on Ancestry may be a bit creative but the Knapton birthplace is a good lead. There may have been two Harriet Farrows, cousins perhaps-or she may have moved further north with a new miner husband. Or married three times. Did not find a death for Charles Pycraft/Pycroft. If it is accurate they have Lewis emigrating to the USA have fun cross checking and eliminating-- the Ancestry tree doesn't look to include Family Search Knapton PRs as a source. 3. Hi, there is a Lewis Farrow marriage in Oldham dist Sept 1/4 1883 vol 8d p 942 . You have a choice of Mary Whitehead or Hannah Whittaker . There are a number of James Farrow births 1885-1891 two of which are Gateshead , but only 3 Harriets and I would guess that Harriet Haddon Farrow is the one , Gateshead, vol 10a , p 907, March 1/4 1890. life is hard . soften it with a cat \\\=^..^=/// ----- Original Message ----- From: "John E Farrow" <johne.farrow@ntlworld.com> To: "norfolk@rootsweb.com" <NORFOLK@rootsweb.com> Sent: Saturday, July 30, 2011 6:12 PM Subject: [NFK] FARROW Lewis > Hi > > I have come across a family in the 1891 census RG12/4125/66/15 in > Chester-l-Street district > > James STOKES 43, Carlisle > Harriet STOKES 44, Norfolk > Margaret Ann STOKES 19, Heworth Dur > William STOKES 16, Heworth > Robert FARROW 22 step-s, Norfolk > Lewis FARROW 26 step-s, Norfolk > Louisa FARROW 25 wife of step-s, Woolwich > James FARROW 4 son of step-s, Wardley Colliery Dur > Harriet FARROW 2 dau of step-s, Wardley Colliery Dur > Frederick FARROW 3mth son of step-s, Whickham Dur > > Has anyone come across the above Norfolk FARROW names ? – I am most > frustrated that I cannot find them in 1901 or earlier census returns nor > can I track the step-son relationship, presumably via Harriet as either > her natural sons or a 1st marriage to a FARROW, nor where Lewis later > vanished to !! > > Regards > John E Farrow > > ------------------------------- > To unsubscribe from the list, please send an email to > NORFOLK-request@rootsweb.com with the word 'unsubscribe' without the > quotes in the subject and the body of the message
