    3. Jack thanks for the post "updating Norfolk names" and the Cutting family. I am slowly investigating my Grandfather's (half?) brother - Reginald Hannant. Reginald's mother was Deborah Ellis who was also my Grandfather George Ellis' mother (no father on birth certificate) - George likely born from a previous relationship. Deborah married a Thomas Hannant in Loddon Norfolk in Q2 1887 (4B 351). Census in 1891 shows the family having moved to Cowpen Northumberland and Reginald age 2. Thomas is shown as a coal miner so he was part of the migration from agriculture to industry. Of interest is that Thomas is shown as having been born about 1857 in North Walsham, Norfolk, England. Thomas appears to have died in Q2 1899 (10b 164) age 42, born about 1857. Now come a few discrepancies... The only Thomas Hannant I can find born around this time was born Q2 1858 in Erpingham (4B 55) In the 1881 Census we have a Thomas Hannant born North Walsham abt 1859 living with an Edward Hannant and a Richard Hannant - all three described as Lodgers living with William and Susanna Hannant and other child Hannants... Back in 1871 they are described as sons (same family and ages abt minus 10 yrs from those of 1881) with Thomas born abt 1859. Same with 1861 Census (age 2 so again abt 1859). As the "Thomas Hannant" name is relatively rare - it seems quite likely that my Grandfather's half? brother was a descendant of Susanna Cutting who married William Hannant and thus, if true, back to Jeremiah Cutting as Jack has so ably documented. I believe North Walsham was part of the Erpingham Registration District - so although there is a bit of a variation in the dates - it all seems to fit. Anyone else investigated this line and are able to confirm or refute the above? Like so many I have moved from my county of origin (Norfolk) and now live on the opposite end of the earth in Greater Sydney, Australia - how I would love to be back examining Church records and so on... It is also interesting to note that my father was Reginald George Ellis - named after the two half? brothers.
